House of the Dragon: Rhaenyra, Alicent, Laenor… Who are the new interpreters of these characters?

Game of Thrones madness is back on TV with its first spin-off Dragon House ! Fans have a chance to discover Westeros, but also discover characters from the past, as this spin-off series centers on the Targaryens, about 170 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

With Game of Thrones, viewers have seen the cast grow and develop over eight seasons. But that won’t be the case with House of the Dragon, which will span quite a few decades. The first season contains a ten-year time jump, and this affects the cast.

Indeed, many characters are affected by this time jump. First up are Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, daughter of the Hand of the King and the new Queen Alycent Hightower, Princess Laena Velarion and Prince Laenor Velarion.

And if series co-creator Ryan Condall is to be believed, the decision to cast several actors for these roles was made early on. “It’s flirtatious, but I think it works, I’ve watched the series several times”– said the showrunner Insider.

“For the first time, the characters are actually children, who change interpreters along the way. And people who are already adults when we first meet them, we age them with hair and make-up. And sometimes the actors change their voices.”

Halfway through the first season, the plot of House of Dragons will jump ten years in time, and therefore we will see the same characters excitedly played by other actors as they grow up.

Obviously, child and child characters also change interpreters, such as Targaryen and Velarion children from different connections between the two families.
