Director Paul Grivas (“Film Catastrophe”), nephew of Jean-Luc Godard (“Besieged”), has posted on his Vimeo account a video that may have been the last record made by the French nouvelle vague icon.
In the video, Godard appears looking at the camera and smoking a cigar. His voice is titled “Oh! Revoir”, which can be translated as “seeing again”, but which also doubles as a phonetic pun for “Au revoir” (goodbye).
Godard resorted to assisted suicide in Switzerland, where he had lived since the 1970s, on September 13. Sources close to the director said that he “was not sick, he was just exhausted” and, for this, he decided to end his life.
The director left an immeasurable legacy for the history of cinema, having directed true classics that helped revolutionize French cinema, such as “Breaked” (1960), “Viver a Vida” (1962) and “The Eleven O’clock. Demon “(1965).
