Tonight on TV: The best documentary of recent years

Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. This evening: Adolescence and time passing through the prism of documentary film.

Thanks to his sensitive and intimate documentaries (Bambi, Les Invisibles among others), director Sébastien Lifschitz returns in 2019 with the feature-length film Adolescentes, shot over five years.

In keeping with Richard Linklater’s Excellent Boyhood – with the main difference being that it’s not fiction -, teenage girls Follows the journey of Emma and Anais, two friends against all odds, from their 13th birthday to their majority.

Through this chronicle of youth, Sébastien Lifschitz also sensitively paints a portrait of France in the 2010s. The story, which is intimate and collective, was awarded the César for Best Documentary and the Louis-Deluc Prize.

Note that Arte devotes her evening to the filmmaker, also broadcasting to the little girl at 11:05 p.m. A true ode to freedom, this documentary approaches transcendence through the everyday life of Sasha, who has felt like a little girl since the age of 3, as well as her family’s constant struggle to understand her difference.
