The streaming service Globoplay launches the documentary series “Vale Tudo com Tim Maia” this Wednesday (28/9), on the day the singer turns 80. Died in 1998 at the age of 55, Tim Maia is still recognized today as one of Brazil’s greatest singers and the documentary series aims to celebrate his life and career through a different approach.

Tim Maia’s story has been told in various media, such as in the fictional film “Tim Maia” (2014), directed by Mauro Lima, and in the book “Vale Tudo – O Som ea Fúria de Tim Maia”, by Nelson Motta. In both cases, however, it was said by other people. In the Globoplay series, it is he who tells the story of him.

Directed by Nelson Motta himself in collaboration with documentary maker Renato Terra (“Narciso em Férias”), “Vale Tudo com Tim Maia” shows the story of the singer through his own testimonies, completing his trajectory through archive images, interviews and shows.

The singer’s choice for this unique point of view has a very clear reason. “No one tells the story of him better than him, with his language, comedy and barbarism”, explained Motta to the press. “And Tim was a born comedian, we strengthened him as a storyteller.”

“The series is a dive into Tim’s originality and musical genius. There are no reviews or experts. The way he tells the stories is crying with laughter. The series is a kind of dancing cabaret. Get ready to laugh, get excited and laugh. dance “, completes Terra.

To compose the material for the series, the directors enlisted the help of Carmelo Maia, son of Tim, who made available his entire collection of VHS and super 8 film reels, which show the singer in his intimacy. . The result was almost 30 minutes of exclusive footage, never seen before by the public.

Accessing these images, however, was not easy. Carmelo Maia had to win a legal fight with her stepbrother Leo Maia. In addition to these behind-the-scenes records, the series is also comprised of archives from TV Globo and other broadcasters and radio stations.

“Vale Tudo com Tim Maia” contains three episodes. The first tells of the singer’s childhood in Tijuca, his trip to the United States and the beginning of success with his first albums. The second episode shows his success and appearances on TV shows. Finally, the third episode is dedicated to their intimate moments.

In addition, the series is packed with the singer’s greatest hits.
