Atresmedia TV has announced the project, for which there are still no protagonists, and which will update the novel by Antonio Gala whose film version starred Ana Belén.
After the controversial film adaptation of ‘The Turkish Passion’directed by Vicente Aranda and starring Ana Belén in 1994, Antonio Gala’s novel will now have a television version, which Atresmedia TV just announced. It will be a series of six chapters of 50 minutes that will start its recording at the end of October between Istanbul and Madrid.
Produced by Montse García, Sonia Martínez and Amparo Miralles, the fiction is currently finalizing its cast, which will be made up of Spanish, Turkish and Italian actors. This new updated version of the story will star Olivia, a Spanish Fine Arts teacher with a brilliant professional career, who wakes up from a coma in an Istanbul hospital after attempting suicide. There she answers the questions of an inspector who is investigating Olivia’s collaboration in a network of smuggling works of art with Yaman, her Turkish lover.
The story of the protagonist reconstructs in two stages the overwhelming passion that she lived with Yaman and that made her abandon her life project in Spain. A story full of lights and shadows about which Olivia does not always tell the truth, which fuels the mystery that surrounds her stay in Turkey and her participation in the man’s dangerous business.
To get out of jail and gain protection from the authorities, Olivia must return to Yaman and inform the police of her movements. An act as brave as it is desperate: does Olivia act to save herself or to save Yamam and her love story?
The script is signed by Irene Rodríguez (Two lifes, the other look) and Esther Morales (The Money Heist, face to face) and directed by Iñaki Peñafiel (Castamar’s cook, The time between seams).
