Make way for The Leader.
She-Hulk spoilers ahead
We’ve come a long way at Marvel since the failed ‘Inhumans,’ as shows like ‘Loki’ (and the much-desired ‘Loki’ season 2), ‘Scarlet Witch and Vision,’ and ‘Ms. Marvel’ have had important ramifications for the MCU in general. And for those who have targeted Jessica Gao’s ‘She-Hulk’ as just a courtroom comedy, the latest episode has proven it to be anything but. Sorry, toxic Marvel trolls.
There have been a lot of questions about Who is the great villain of ‘She-Hulk: Lawyer Hulka’the Disney+ series, and from the moment Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) were run off the road by a Sakaarian spaceship, it’s been clear that greater powers are at play here.
Walters herself has joked that it’s a show of the week cameo thanks to Wong (Benedict Wong) and Abomination (Tim Roth), and while we didn’t get Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the sixth episode, ‘Just Jen’ , there was a major breakthrough from the villainous network known as Intelligence.
The MCU hasn’t wasted any time introducing new teams after ‘Avengers: Endgame’. In addition to a clear setup for the ‘Young Avengers’ and the next ‘Thunderbolts’ movie, we’ve had hints of the Fantastic Four and even ‘She-Hulk’ has confirmed Wolverine within the MCU and, in its second chapter, ‘ She-Hulk has remembered ‘Eternals’ and the Celestials.
‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, Marvel’s most surreal sequel, went down the darkest path when it came to debuting the Illuminati, and in a similar vein, think of Intelligence as a more villainous version of them. .
In the sixth episode of ‘She-Hulk’, the secondary story revolves around the character Mr. Immortal (David Pasquesi), who lives up to his name and escapes his numerous marriages by committing suicide and being declared legally dead, only to come back to life.
Confronting her exes, one of Immortal’s wives says she found out about his scam from a video seen on a site called Intelligence. Not that we needed a push, but in typical ‘She-Hulk’ fashion, Nikki Ramos (Ginger Gonzaga) then circles the word “Intelligence.”
Later, Nikki and Mallory Book (Renée Elise Goldsberry) go on a hunt for the intelligence site and discover that is dedicated to bringing Walters down, complete with death threats and She-Hulk memes.
The episode ends with Nikki leaving Jen a voicemail before the shot cuts to a lab where an unknown group of scientists are keeping an eye on Walters and tracking his vital signs.
A message appears from HulkKing asking if the next phase of the plan is ready. Next, someone puts a needle in a box, presumably ready to go. another attempt to get She-Hulk’s gamma-infected blood. Although we don’t know who he is hulkkingIt’s probably someone from Intelligence.
In the comics, Intelligence is a team of the most brilliant but nefarious minds in the galaxy. Introduced in 2009, Intelligence was formed to steal intellectual treasures from the Library of Alexandria.
The team cured the Venom symbiote after the Secret Wars, brought it to the attention of the Beyonder, and was also responsible for turning Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross into the Red Hulk.
Although the team disbanded upon being betrayed by Doctor Doom, it was subsequently reformed by MODOK and The Leader. It is more than convenient that MODOK appears in ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ and The Leader of ‘The Incredible Hulk’ is also back for ‘Captain America: New World Order’.
Intelligence forced the Hulk’s allies to become “Cosmic-Gamma Mutants” and among them was the Red She-Hulk, who turns out to be Betty Ross.
Ross was originally played by Liv Tyler in The Incredible Hulk, and while there’s no word yet on his return to the MCU, the fact that Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader is back means anything is possible.
Most likely, we will see a turn in which the Jameela Jamil’s Titania is part of the plan and can become the Red She-Hulk of the MCU. It is clear that Jen’s blood is the key Of all this, and in case you weren’t sure, in the recap of the fifth episode they repeated the scene where Bruce destroyed She-Hulk’s samples for fear that it could create an army of Hulks.
This all ties into ‘She-Hulk’ thanks to Jon Bass’s Todd, which you’ll remember is that kind of awkward quote that called Walters a “specimen.” When Bass joined the series, he referred to him as HulkTodd, suggesting that he will be one of the copycat Hulks we get before the season ends.
There are also questions about how it fits Daredevil into this, and most think that the mysterious “boss” the underutilized Wrecking Crew spoke of could herald another return of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.
Intelligence is, without a doubt, a shadowy group of villains, and although we doubt that characters as strange as The Wizard or Mad Thinker make the list, we could see more of Egghead from ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’. Most likely Intelligence follow the path of ‘The Thunderbolts’ and create your own team.
Whatever it is, it seems too convenient not to reintroduce Samuel Sterns before the ‘New World Order’, while also going back to the Louis Leterrier movie, ‘The Incredible Hulk’.
Then again, we could be completely out of the game, which means this version of Intelligence is just a low-level villain to round out the ‘She-Hulk’ arc.
