“Hellraiser is fantastic”: the first reactions draw praise from the film

After decades and several sequels, the “Hellraiser” franchise will receive a reboot, which has already won a trailer and will debut soon. Now, critics who have accessed the film have already started posting their first reactions to the new Hulu movie.

“Hellraiser” is David Buckner’s retelling of Clive Baker’s book “The Hellbound Heart,” which became a horror film franchise, with ten sequels, some better than others, while the first film is considered a classic of the genre.

But speaking of quality, with the initial reactions it’s already possible to get a first impression of what to expect from the reboot, and so far they have been overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising the film for bringing a glorious and elegant approach to the plot.

The “Hellraiser” franchise revolves around a mysterious box-shaped puzzle that opens a portal to a hellish dimension where pleasure and pain are equivalent. On the one hand, some people open the box intentionally, as they are willing to donate their bodies to the Cenobites, creatures they see as angels. But others end up trapped in the box by mistake, and their eternal torture makes them see the Cenobites as demons.

One way or another, the Cenobites are unique creatures in the midst of terror, after all, by mistake or by will, it is always the victims who invoke them, which makes each partially responsible for their own terrible fate.

The franchise is returning to its origins, with Bruckner’s “Hellraiser” featuring a group of curious victims, embroiled in occult forces they don’t fully understand.

The reboot features Jamie Clayton as the new Pinhead, the leader of the Cenobites. Clayton is taking on the role that originally belonged to Doug Bradley and some fans fear he won’t be able to live up to the expectations of an iconic character like Pinheard. But according to initial reactions, the new version of the character is quite worthy.

“Hellraiser has a lot to show you and is complemented by a great cast, some excellent kills, wonderful visuals and some violence that would make Clive Barker happy,” said Hunter Bolding, critic of That Hashtag Show.

“Hellraiser commands. Super violent, gorgeous, poetic, genuinely disturbing Gore that delves into Barkerian themes. Jamie Clayton is elegant and terrifying, Luke Piotrowski and Ben Collins’ script delves into wisdom and love and David Bruckner absolutely crushes it. So excited, “said Graham Slipper.

Simon Thompson also praised the film: “Hellraiser is a nightmare… and I’m so relieved. A gory, jagged and visceral version, it’s a true return to form for the franchise. Director David Bruckner preaches Barker’s insane hell landscape with Jamie Clayton’s Pinhead restoring the horror titan’s iconic status. “

C. Robert Cargill also praised the film highly: “HELLRAISER is a twisted, bloody and exciting reinvention that feels closer to Barker’s prose than any previous film. Hardcore and faithful, it expands mythology without trampling it. It will create a whole new generation of HELLRAISER fans. Love him too much. Streaming on October 7th.

“Oh my god… I loved Hellraiser. What an absolutely fantastic and bloody moment that film was! I had faith in David Bruckner and am so happy that he agreed with me because it was an amazing experience, ”said James of Cinema Stimulus.

“Hellraiser is the best voice from the original. It’s nice to see a Hellraiser movie that really deals with the Cenobites and their imminent threat as the stars of the show. Jamie Clayton was amazing as the new Hell Priest! I will accept all the pain and pleasure they will want to distribute later, “said critic Cody Leach.

Bleeding Cool’s Scaremy K also commented on the new “Hellraiser”: “I’m glad to finally be able to say that Hellraiser is awesome. It takes a while to get started, but when it does, it’s a relentless, bloody ecstasy of terror. Jamie Clayton is perfect as Pinhead and the Cenobites are terrifying. I liked it. “

“Hellraiser” will arrive on Hulu on October 7th. The service is not available in Brazil and normally its releases arrive on Star +, but there is still no confirmation of the simultaneous release, or when the film will arrive here if it doesn’t.
