How well do you know the filmography of the great Martin Scorsese? Will you be able to identify his eight films using just the latest blueprint? That’s what we’re going to test with this new quiz.
Martin Scorsese is part of a very closed club of recent Hollywood directors who are considered holy monsters, most notably Coppola, Spielberg and De Palma. Born at the turn of the 1940s, these filmmakers and all participated in what is commonly called the New Hollywood.
The cinema of the 70s, born from the counterculture, under the strong influence of Italian neorealism and the French New Wave, is determined to master the taboo themes of the time and the deconstruction of the classic cinema of the past decades.
In Martin Scorsese’s vast career of twenty-six feature films to date, two actors have taken the lead: Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. Among them, no fewer than fourteen films were collected under the leadership of the Italian-American director.
In 1973, the latter first shot Robert De Niro in Mean Streets. He plays Johnny Boy, an unstable small-time mobster saddled with debt. The main themes and scenes that characterize the filmmaker’s career are already there. The film was a huge success, which was confirmed three years later by the two men’s new collaboration for Taxi Driver.
This was followed by La Valse des Pantins, Raging Bull, and later in the 90s, two films in the form of a diptych, Les Affranchis and Casino, before the recent Irishman. Although the two men stopped touring together in the late 90s, it was Leonardo DiCaprio who took it upon himself to form a fruitful new tandem in the 2000s.
Over the course of eleven years, they toured together five times, from Gangs of New York in 2002 to The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013. It goes without saying that we can’t wait for Scorsese’s next film, The Killers. Flower Moon, where two actors will see each other in the lead roles.
In anticipation of this film’s scheduled release in 2023, take a look at the filmography of this big name in cinema with a quiz where you will have to identify eight of his films using only the last shot.
