In an interview with Empire magazine, the director of the Jurassic World saga believes that no sequel should have seen the light of day.
Although Jurassic World: The World After recently crossed the billion-dollar mark at the global box office, becoming the third film in a row in the saga to do so, director Colin Trevorrow, who revived the saga for Steven Spielberg in 2015, believes that the franchise. Maybe it should have stopped after the first Jurassic Park…
Indeed, Colin Trevorrow told the magazine Empire That no sequel should have seen the light of day.
“I specifically did something different from the other films to change the DNA of the franchise.” He elaborates on Jurassic World The World next, before continuing “The five previous films are stories around dinosaurs. It’s a character-driven story set in a world where they coexist with dinosaurs..
I did it to keep the franchise moving forward – even though it’s essentially unbreakable. Perhaps there should have been only one Jurassic Park.
If we’re going to continue, I want to let them tell stories in a world where dinosaurs exist, rather than saying, “Here’s another reason to go back to the island.“”.
The filmmaker then explains that he was working with Universal to include new characters in the film in order to make other films. “This film is actually about creating new characters that will be added to the new generation – Kayla Watts and Ramsay Cole, who will be played by Mamoudu Atti, as well as Dichen Lachman’s character, who will be arrested at the end. There is more to come.”
It was during the release of promotional material for the film that Colin Trevorrow discovered that Universal was focusing its campaign on The World After being the last film in the franchise. The slogan “Live the end of Jurassic Era” is placed at the top of the posters. The filmmaker explains that he preferred a different approach.
I never knew this was the end of the franchise until I saw the marketing. These guys are brilliant at what they do, but I think it would have been clearer to say that this was the end of the trilogy.
He adds: “It’s obvious that the studio wants to make more money, but the real goal of Jurassic World is to continue to make kids love dinosaurs. Every day a new fan is born. Children deserve these films, and young filmmakers grow up with these stories (…) What interests me is that a newbie comes to me and says he has an idea like I did for Steve.“
For Colin Trevorrow, The World After was the third and final installment of the Jurassic World saga with Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen (Chris Pratt), but the latter knows the producers don’t want to lose the egg hen. Or that a new movie, or even a new trilogy, with dinosaurs will soon see the light of day.
