The fantasy series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has begun production of its second season, which will be shot in the UK.
According to The Hollywood reporter, production of the new season of the series, the first of which is yet to be released by Prime Video, has begun at Bray Studios, near London. The second season of the series will have eight episodes, just like the first.
The transfer of filming for “The Rings of Power” to the UK is significant, as the first season was filmed in New Zealand. The country of Oceania is synonymous with “The Lord of the Rings”, as the Peter Jackson trilogy was recorded there.
New Zealand tourism uses association with the franchise to attract visitors to the country, so the decision to move registrations to the UK has been controversial and much debated. Elijah Wood, actor who played the hobbit Frodo in the films of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, reacted with an emoji with a hand on his face at the announcement of the change of location of “The Rings of Power”.

Political factors may have influenced the departure of “The Rings of Power” from New Zealand. New Zealand politician Todd McClay said so Variety that part of the blame can be attributed to the country’s minister of economic and regional development, Stuart Nash.
“Stuart Nash has shown a lack of interest in doing business with Amazon, despite the huge impact manufacturing could have on our economy,” McClay said. “Stuart Nash has to be transparent [os neozelandeses] on why he didn’t even ask for future seasons of the show to be shot in New Zealand. “
But there are other factors that may have influenced the change. THR says shooting in the UK is cheaper than in New Zealand. Additionally, Amazon Studios aims to create a “multi-series hub” in London, where it will produce more originals.
In addition to confirming the start of filming on “The Rings of Power”, THR said the wise and ancient elf Cirdan will join the series in the second season. It has not yet been confirmed which actor will play the character.
The penultimate episode of the series’ initial season arrives at dawn this Friday (7), with the season finale arriving on October 18. The first six episodes of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” are available on Prime Video.
