Prime Video: One of the best comic book adaptations will soon leave the platform

Snowpiercer, le transperceneige is leaving the Amazon Prime Video catalog soon. You have one week left to (re)watch one of Bong Joon Ho’s best comic book adaptations.

Before winning the Palme d’Or and the Oscar for Best Picture for Parasite, Bong Joon Ho was noted for many excellent films such as Homicide, Mother or The Host. Among his most popular films is also Snowpiercer, le transperceneige.

This ambitious film with a budget of $40 million was one of the biggest successes at the global box office in 2013, reaching 678,049 admissions in France, becoming a benchmark for South Korean films. It’s a successful bet for Bong Joon Ho, who then makes his first film in English and takes his first steps in Hollywood.

Assembling an exceptional cast – Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris, John Hart, Octavia Spencer, Ko Asung and Song Kang-ho – the South Korean director draws crowds for this great entertainment.

But it’s also Snowpiercer’s brilliant plot that hits the mark. And this, we owe to Jacques Loeb, Jean-Marc Rochet and Benjamin Legrand, who are behind the Franco-Belgian comics “Le Transperceneige”.

A successful comic book adaptation

When he discovered three comics albums in a store in Seoul in 2004, Bong Joon Ho immediately fell in love: “This train blew me away. I think everyone has a fantasy of trains and scenery from the window.”. Fascinated by the story of Snowpiercer, which he sees as a kind of Noah’s Ark, and the themes that emerge from it, the South Korean filmmaker is eager to adapt it.

It will take time for Bong Joon Ho to finally start this project that is close to his heart. After four years of development and another three years of production, as well as intensive filming, Snowpiercer is finally seeing the light of day and traveling to festivals such as Deauville and Busan.

A feature film that receives the majority of positive reviews and attracts a large audience will be successful. Although it takes liberties with the source material, Snowpiercer is considered one of the best comic book film adaptations.

Recall that Snowpiercer takes place in 2031, when humanity enters a new ice age. The last survivors board the Snowpiercer, a giant train condemned to circle the Earth without stopping. In this futuristic microcosm of metal that splits the ice, a hierarchy of classes has been recreated, against which a man trained by one of them tries to fight. Because people never change…

If you want to see it (again), know that you only have one week left before the film leaves the Prime Video platform.
