It’s Cuban actress Ana de Armas, slipping into Norma Jeane/Marilyn Monroe skins. And if opinions about the film are completely different, most viewers agree that the actor gives a breathtaking performance and that the resemblance to the Hollywood icon is impressive.

A stunning transformation

To become Marilyn Monroe, Ana de Armas spent a lot of time preparing for the role. But he also had to literally transform himself. Between hair and makeup, Ana de Armas’ makeover took 2.5 to 3 hours every day. It is important to note that the team did not use any prosthetics to make Anna Marilyn.

Netflix has released a time-lapse video of the actress’ training and her incredible transformation into Marilyn Monroe, which you can watch below.

In a recent interview varietyLead makeup artist Tina Roesler Kerwin and lead hairstylist Jaime Lee McIntosh reveal their secrets for transforming Anna into Marilyn and satisfying director Andrew Dominick: “He absolutely wanted us to not settle for making Anne look like Marilyn. He wanted us to find Marilyn in Anne, and that became our goal.”

That’s why there are no prosthetics for Ana de Armas, but hours of precise make-up and hairdos. The team chose a silicone cap because silicone lasts longer than a bald head and can be worn all day.

The actress’ natural hair was tucked under a silicone cap and then neatly fitted into a wig that replicated Monroe’s signature haircut and changed throughout the day.

The actress also had to wear blue contact lenses for the film, and Tina Roessler Kerwin had to change the natural shape of De Armas’ eyes by adding false eyelashes. Another makeup trick: contouring, which will allow you to play with the age of Ana de Armas.

Finally, the teams played with lipstick and eyeshadow colors to get as close to Marilyn’s style as possible, using anecdotes and tricks from the Hollywood icon’s former makeup artists.
