In Boomerang, viewers will find actor Corinne Masiero, well known for playing the lead role of Captain Marlo in the TV series of the same name, which also airs on France 2. She is joined by actress Tiffany Daviot (currently headlining Detox, a new comedy series available on Netflix), who plays Roxanne, a young woman who is sexually assaulted in the workplace. Bruno Salomone (Harassed available on Salto) is also in the game and lends his qualities to the aggressor Quentin.
Alongside them, Laurent Bateau (Délicieux, Emma Bovary) plays Reno, the owner of the printing press, in which all the characters develop, while the actors Clara Piral, Marie Berto (The Mystery of Daval) and Marie Hettermann (The Place of Others) interpret. Is it worth seeing?
Boomerang is a very clear TV movie about sexual harassment in the workplace. From the very first minutes, Roxane’s aggression at the printing press, which was followed by her suicide attempt, is clearly visible. These dramatic and violent events are unfortunately only the beginning of the character’s long descent into hell.
Throughout the film, the young woman can rely on Louise, her loud and loyal colleague, who is not afraid to say out loud what others think quietly. In this strong and authentic role, actress Corinne Masiero excelled, as always, without much difficulty. However, we almost feel sorry for him being at the center of this story as he tries to erase Roxanne’s character.
The audience follows Louise as she gradually becomes a spokesperson for the protest movement that emerges as part of the print jobs in which all the characters work. She considers it a badge of honor that her colleague’s voice is heard in this company, where sexist remarks and inappropriate behavior reflect their daily lives.
The male characters in the TV movie are almost all female, which is ultimately a shame. From boss to co-workers, they form a true unwavering group that doesn’t hesitate to support Quentin, Roxanne’s attacker, when the case is revealed. Fortunately, some of them realize the seriousness of the situation and join a movement inspired by their female counterparts.
Boomerang has a strong message, but is sorely lacking in delicacy. Indeed, Louise repeatedly forces her colleague to talk about her sexual abuse with colleagues, despite her repeated refusals. Unfortunately, Roxanne is never in control of the situation from the beginning to the end of the TV movie, which prevents her from fully owning her story.
There is no doubt that this telefilm is essential in the era of the Me Too movement, but unfortunately it does not place the victim at the center of the story enough, preferring once again a stronger and bolder figure.
