Matthew Needham, actor who plays Larys Strong in “The House of the Dragon”, commented on the ongoing comparisons between his character and two other figures in the “Game of Thrones” universe: Littlefinger and Varys.

Petys Baelish, Littlefinger, played by Aiden Gillen and Master of Whisperers Lord Varys, played by Conleth Hill, became famous in the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” for being underrated figures devising plans with huge consequences in history, something that Larys Strong is already proving capable.
Now, in the spin-off that precedes the events of the “House of the Dragon” series, the figure of Larys Strong has emerged, who has long drawn comparisons with these two characters. Needham, the actor who plays Larys, sees that they have a similar philosophy of life, but that they go down different paths.
“I don’t know if he’s doing something unique, I just think they’re three really unique people,” the actor said Weekly entertainment. “But obviously, the ‘chaos is a ladder’ lifestyle is something they share.”
He continued: “These are wonderful actors and performances, but I haven’t studied them. I just heard it [Larys] it is his own beast. And they are different writers. It might be in the same world, but it felt like a different show. “
“I don’t think I would do anyone a favor by trying to replicate someone else’s performance because it was done beyond perfection by these guys. I don’t think any of these kids burned their family alive. I’m sure they’ve done other horrible things, but he’s his weird type, I guess. He is following his path, ”concluded the actor.
Larys is the younger brother of Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr), a member of the Patriot of the City and lover of Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), and the real father of their children, Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey. Lyonel Strong (Gavin Spokes) is their father, and is one of King Viserys’ advisors, who later replaces Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) as Hand of the King.
Things took a dark turn for the Strong family towards the end of Episode 6, when both Harwin and Lyonel are charred in an arson attack at their castle, Harrenhal. The death of Larys’ father and brother was ordered by himself, carried out by criminals whom he freed from death sentences.
Larys acted in the interests of Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke), as with Lyonel’s death, her father, Otto Hightower, would have free rein to resume his position as Hand of King Viserys and indirectly rule the kingdom. Larys is one of the most loyal members of the political group known as the Greens.
The first seven episodes of “House of the Dragon” are available on HBO Max. Episode 8 of the series arrives this Sunday (9), at 10pm, on HBO and HBO Max.
