In honor of actress Kate Winslet’s birthday, we offer a nine-question quiz about the movie Titanic. Will you be able to prevent the ship from sinking?

Kate Winslet turns 47 today. The British actor, who was born in Reading, England, grew up in modest surroundings with his maternal grandparents, both actors, who gave him a taste for comedy. At the age of eleven, he joined Redroofs Theater School, which allowed him to appear in some commercials and to dub foreign films.

But at the age of seventeen, in 1994, her acting career really took off, when she managed to land one of the main roles in Peter Jackson’s film Celestial Creatures, beating out almost two hundred actresses. It explains the young Juliet, who along with her friend Polina gradually cut herself off from the world, locking herself in an imaginary world and arousing the dismay of their families.

The following year, she starred in Ang Lee’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s Reasons and Feelings alongside Emma Thompson. First approached by the minor character of Lucy, she eventually gets the more important role of Marianne, for which she thoroughly invests herself, practicing tai chi at the request of the director and learning to play the piano. A performance that would earn her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the age of twenty.

But in 1997, the actress revealed herself to the whole world by interpreting Rose in James Cameron’s Titanic. If Gwyneth Paltrow was originally going to play the role of Leonard DiCaprio’s young companion in the film, it was casting director Mali Finney who convinced James Cameron to choose Kate Winslet.

The young actress’s career really took off and in 2009 she won an Oscar for Best Actress for The Reader. Titanic was released in theaters twenty-five years ago. Do you still remember the movie well and can you answer these nine questions?
