The Chicago Police Department recently said goodbye to one of its most iconic characters.
As announced at the end of the summer, Jesse Lee Soffer, who played Inspector Jay Halstead from the very first episode of the series, decided to leave the Chicago Police Department after more than nine years of good and dedicated service. And it was last night that its final episode aired in the United States on NBC.
If we could have feared that his character would have a disastrous fate, this is not the case, the writers preferred to offer Halstead a good start. Which leaves the door open for Haley Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), his wife, whom he married in season 9.
After breaking the law yet again and injuring a man during an investigation, Jay simply took responsibility for his actions and returned his badge to Chicago Police Chief Patrick O’Neill. And this, despite the displeasure of Voight (Jason Bege) and Upton, who were ready to cover it up.
But then, what will happen to Halstead now that he has left law enforcement? Chicago Police Department Season 10 Episode 3 (Chicago PD in VO) tells us that he accepted a position in the army to track down the most dangerous drug cartels on the planet. And his first mission will be in Bolivia.
In the final moments of the episode, Jay says goodbye to Hayley, promising her that she is the “greatest love of his life” and that they will come out of this all stronger, especially since his mission isn’t taken into account. lasts more than eight months. And that’s when the scene between Jay and Voight at the airport closes this pivotal episode of Season 10 that fans of the series won’t want to miss.
“I want to thank the show’s incredible fans for their unwavering support over the past ten years, and a big thank you to Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment, Peter Jankowski, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Rick Eide, Gwen.” Width, NBC, Universal Television, my cast partners and our amazing team.”wrote Jesse Lee Soffer last August in a press release accompanying the news of his departure.
“Bringing this series to life week after week has been a labor of love for everyone involved in this journey. I will always be proud of my time as Jay Halstead.”.
Jesse Lee Soffer is not the first historical actor to leave the successful detective series, which is broadcast in France on TF1 and 13th Street. Indeed, before him, Sofia Bush, John Seda, Elias Koteas or Brian Geraat all left more or less suddenly.
It remains to be seen what awaits Hayley Upton in the next episodes of the Chicago Police Department, now that her husband has gone overseas for work. Will their relationship survive the distance? future will show.
