“House of the Dragon”: showrunner renews contract with HBO

Ryan Condal, showrunner of “House of the Dragon” alongside Miguel Sapochnik, has renewed his contract with HBO, after the success of the first season of the series.

Among many other projects and their writers trying to get a prelude to “Game of Thrones” alongside author George RR Martin, Ryan Condal had success with “House of the Dragon”, the first (and so far only) derivative series. from this universe. to come to life.

After a lightning-fast renewal for a second season and Miguel Sapochnik’s departure as “House of the Dragon” co-showrunner from here, Ryan Condal, now the series’ only showrunner, has renewed his deal with HBO, according to Deadline Magazine.

Originally, Condal signed a global deal with HBO in 2020, shortly before “House of the Dragon” was ordered without the need for a pilot episode. Condal co-created the series with George RR Martin and served as a writer, executive producer and co-showrunner for the first season. He has already been named the only showrunner of the second season.

“Ryan Condal is a unique talent. She has a wonderful ability to tell stories, build worlds and shape characters, as well as a deep passion and respect for the George RR Martin universe, “said Francesca Orsi, HBO Executive Vice President of Programming, Head of Drama Series and Films for HBO. “The years we have spent collaborating with him on House of the Dragon have affirmed our desire to expand our partnership with him now and for years to come.”

“House of the Dragon” premiered in August, garnering strong critical reviews and the highest ratings for a new original series in HBO history. The series now averages 29 million viewers per episode in the United States alone.

“When I got that paperback copy of ‘Game of Thrones’ over two decades ago, I wasn’t sure if I could be a screenwriter,” Condal said. “Finding myself here, having co-created a series set in Westeros, is almost unimaginable. I am incredibly lucky. I am grateful to George RR Martin for believing in me and HBO for believing in me. I’m thrilled to partner with HBO to tell the next chapter in the Targaryen saga and hope it’s just one of many to come. “

With a second season already guaranteed, “House of the Dragon” has already premiered seven of its 10 episodes of the first season. The eighth episode arrives on HBO and HBO Max next Sunday (9) at 10pm.
