The arrival of a wealthy friend of the father exacerbates tensions in the family. Will Julia manage to gain her freedom?
The first feature film co-produced by … Martin Scorsese
He was preceded by a very good word of mouth, especially thanks to the very nice award he received in Cannes last July, Murina arriving in our rooms. This is Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovich პირველი’s first feature film.
Together with Murina, the young Croatian director wanted to develop the world and character that was presented in his short film “Blue” (2017). The director loved to stage controversy in the hearts of a small group of protagonists and place them in a harsh natural environment.
“I started with this dynamic, the image of nature I had as a child when I arrived on this island to visit my grandmother.“, – he says in the film’s press team. And then the story slowly built up. What mattered to me was the history of these two generations of women trapped in machismo and violence, what many of us call the “Croatian mentality.”“
Note that Murina was created with the support of Cinéfondation, the Goethe-Institut, and the Jerusalem Film Lab, and is co-produced by Martin Scorsese.
