Quantum Code: This unexpected connection between the original series and the reboot

When NBC announced the Code Quantum reboot in September 2021, fans were desperate to find out what the connection between the two series would be. And if until now the only common denominator was the time machine, episode 4, which was broadcast this October 10 in the United States, made it possible to propose a connection that was, to say the least, unexpected.

As physicist Ben Song (Raymond Lee) finds himself mistakenly transported into the past and unable to remember who he is, Herbert “Magic” Williams (Ernie Hudson), a Vietnam veteran, finds himself at the helm of the project. A quantum leapTells colleagues about his experience with the initial project that began in the 1990s. Thus, the soldier remembers the time when Sam Beckett (played by Scott Bakula in the original series) was reincarnated into him.

Magic then describes feeling the scientist enter his body. Then everything went black and he came to himself a day later, not remembering what happened. While he was gone, he managed to save all the members of his platoon, including his commander, Tom Beckett, who happened to be Sam’s brother.

A landmark event for Magic actually happened in Quantum Code Season 3 Episode 2, titled “Family First – Part 2,” in which the character Scott Bakula finds himself camped in the middle of the Vietnam War and tries to save him. A brother who died years ago. The character of Herbert “Magic” Williams was being played by Christopher Kirby (Preaching) at the time.

Thus, this connection makes it possible to explain the origin of the reboot story, because after becoming an admiral, he discovered the existence of the quantum leap project and then realized what was happening to him all those years ago. Knowing that he was originally supposed to die before Sam intervened, and that the scientist was still lost somewhere in space-time, he forced himself to reprogram to find her.

Will this connection between the two series allow Scott Bakula to return to the reboot? Nothing is less certain, the actor said a few weeks ago that he does not want to participate in the project…

Note that after only four weeks on the air, NBC has decided to order 6 additional episodes, bringing Quantum Leap Season 1 to a total of 18 episodes. So far, the series has not been picked up by any French channel.
