There are easter eggs that are hard to find (unless you’re a fan of the piece, of course), and there are those that are so subtle that they’re harder to miss than to spot. Episode 18 of the final season of The Walking Dead clearly falls into this second category of hidden details.
No viewer could have missed the eyeballs the series’ writers sent to Walking Dead comic co-creator Robert Kirkman. In this scene from the eighteenth episode, RJ – the son of Rick Grimes and Michonne – is actually seen reading a comic book that was also read by his older brother Carl Grimes a few years earlier.
And not just any, because it’s Invincible, a trashy and irreverent superhero series also created by Robert Kirkman. This comic has also been adapted as an animated series on Amazon Prime Video; Many Walking Dead actors also feature in the program’s original voice cast, such as Steven Yeun (Glenn), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Michael Cudlitz (Abraham) or even Lenny James (Morgan).
