Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: The sequel to James Cameron’s “Terminator.”
Based on the success of Terminator, which grossed nearly $40 million in the United States in 1984, James Cameron directed a sequel seven years later, titled Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The first film in the history of cinema to benefit from a budget of up to 100 million dollars (102 to be exact), it gives the director the means of his ambitions.
The latter devotes more than half of that budget to special effects, using three different companies: Fantasy II Film Effects for the war sequences, 4-Ward for the nuclear explosion and molten metal, and finally, ILM, George Lucas’s company. For the animation of the T-1000 – the magnificent killing machine portrayed by Robert Patrick – as well as computer graphics.
In this way, James Cameron signs science fiction with revolutionary techniques (fans of the time will especially welcome the use of morphing and 3D animation techniques), awarded with the Saturn Award, BAFTA and Oscar des Better visual effects.
A great action movie that combines memorable scenes, Terminator 2: Judgment Day Holds the best viewership rating of the original trilogy on AlloCiné with an average of 4.3 out of 5.
