Netflix sometimes releases the amount of hours watched of its most popular productions, however, the streaming giant does not disclose the total number of views of its products, as TV stations do for example.
And that is about to change, at least in the UK. Netflix has announced a partnership with BARB, a non-profit organization that measures TV ratings in the region. In this way it will be possible to measure the concrete audience numbers of the streaming company.
Some Netflix productions also appear on Nielsen’s streaming charts, but the companies don’t officially work together and, often, the rankings don’t match what appears on the streaming company’s hit shows tab.
“In 2019, at the Cambridge RTS conference, I welcomed the idea of Netflix’s audience being measured independently. We have been in contact with BARB since then and are delighted to be committed to the reliable measurement of how people watch television in the UK, ”said Reed Hastings, co-CEO of Netflix.
With the BARB measurement, Netflix audience figures can be compared with traditional broadcasters from the second week of November. The organization will carry out a monthly comparison between the streaming company and traditional TV.
