Allocine: After a year’s absence, Amanda is back on the set. Was it a surprise when we owned the production of Tomorrow , asking you to come back?
Marion Christman: Yes, absolutely. It’s been a year since I left the series and the character was in Martinique. I didn’t expect that. And when the producer called my agent to make an offer and tell me the pitch, I said yes to that pitch. If I could just go back and play it every day, I’m not sure I’d say yes. But the pitch there made me want to.
I imagine you also had the feeling that there was more to say with this character?
There is always something to say. And still will be after this end. I was surprised and told myself that it was logical.
Going back, how did you feel about Amanda leaving in 2021?
As for me personally, life was not difficult. What I love about our job is that I can do projects and have some people stop so others can start. I saw it as a door that closes and opens again. So for me it was amazing. This meant that other adventures had to begin.
But really, when tomorrow is ours, a year later reminds us to come back and greet us, we’re excited. It’s a bit like a family we love to find.
How did you react when you found out that Amanda was going to go around and start killing people to get revenge on Odysseus?
I’ve never played an assassin before, so I thought it was a great opportunity. It was truly a gift for me to be offered this palette that I had never tried before. That’s what’s great about a series like Tomorrow Is Us: In three years, I’ve experienced things that I might never have experienced in the classic career of an actor.
In terms of the psychology of the character, do you think it makes sense that Amanda could have gotten this far?
It’s obviously surprising because not everyone rolls like that. Fortunately (laughs). But Amanda has always been emotionally fragile. He still poisoned Victoire (Solène Hébert). We know him with a little heightened emotion in things. It might be a little tense, but I finally get it.
He’s a character who’s been through a lot and experienced a lot of drama. So if we get to the character’s neuroses, we get to that. To me, it’s a logical extension of his neuroses if you push them to the limit.
With the theme of inseparability, we feel that Ulysses (Sebastian Capgras) was Amanda’s great love and that the wound cannot be closed…
Yes, absolutely. She’s not going psycho, it’s still Amanda. He can’t handle his pain and sorrow. And so it goes. However, we are still stuck with the same character who is in pain and very fragile emotionally.
During Revenge, Amanda wears a wig and dark glasses. Was it fun to shoot with that look?
It was fun because there was a transformation, so it was awesome. Instead, it was still very restrictive because I shot during a heat wave, in the middle of August (laughs). There were one or two times when it was really hard and I was really on the verge of discomfort. I remember the costume designers stripped me and put my feet in the water with the fans. It was a very hard day in full sun, but I don’t regret it, it was great.
Amanda also has a funny signature: she spits on her victims. Was it your idea or was it in the script from the start?
It was a bit of both. The first fight with Sofi was written. Also, I thank Carol Bianick because she wanted me to spit on her. Many actors could refuse, because it is true that it is not very pleasant. But I wanted to do it. This scene was very funny.
I shot the iPad scene a few days later. So I asked the director to spit on the iPad. He said to me, “I’m not sure if everything is okay, but let’s do it.” And indeed, I saw that he kept it. Amanda Spritzer from Seth (laughs).
After Sophie, Martin (Frank Monsin) will be Amanda’s next victim. What can you tease about the rest of the plot?
Amanda wants to go after Martin because he’s the one who managed to take the hostages. And he mismanaged it according to him. We actually shot something really cool with Frank Moncini. We had a stuntman. It was really fun to do. Inevitably, this could end badly.
