The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season one finale, titled “The Allies,” finally reveals who Sauron is among the characters, but also gives us huge hints about the supposed identity of the unknown, the individual who arrived like a meteorite. in middle earth

In the first series of episodes, the Stranger battles three whitish individuals known as practitioners of magic. They believe they see Sauron incarnate in him and begin to “re-educate” him in an attempt to restore his memory. Except it’s the other way around during the episode.

I know

The stranger refuses the darkness and declares: “I’m doing good” By fending off three shadowy creatures that reveal their true selves and collapse into a group of butterflies. This is a new clue to the identity of the Stranger, as Gandalf’s fireworks in The Fellowship of the Ring notably take the form of “fountains of butterflies”.

Recall that in Tolkien’s writings, Gandalf is sent to Middle-earth by the Valar to fight Sauron, that he develops a kinship with the Pivels (the hobbit people), that he has a full beard, that he uses a staff to communicate. In episode 8, he whispers unintelligible words to the fireflies and that he has disproportionate power. Moreover, the stranger goes on a “journey” with Pyvelue, which leads to the “unexpected journey” of Bilbo the Hobbit.

This line also leaves little room for doubt:

These hints spread by the series coincide with the fact that the stranger is Gandalf.

Moreover, the three beings identify him as the “Istar”, the order of wizards to which Saruman and Gandalf belong. What will make Tolkien fans lose their hair is that the first Istar to arrive in Middle-earth does so in the third age, and the series is in the second. Istar’s existence, Gandalf or not, betrays the official timeline of the universe.

As of the end of this Season 1, his official identity has yet to be revealed. Are all indications leading us astray, like the creatures of darkness who mistook this unknown for Sauron? According to your theories, and above all, we can’t wait for season two!
