Black Panther 2 will be released in French cinemas!

On hold for a month, the Nov. 9 theatrical release of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” has just been confirmed by Disney France.

While Marvel operatives and fans have been holding their breath for the past month, Walt Disney’s French arm has just confirmed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released in French cinemas.

Last September, during the General Assembly of the Syndicate of Cinematic Theaters in France, Disney actually expressed the possibility of releasing Black Panther 2 directly on its Disney+ streaming platform in France in order to avoid media chronology restrictions.

But after discussions with CNC that took place on October 4, the studio finally decided to keep the Ryan Coogler film in theaters.

In a press release, Disney France explains: “The public authorities have clearly recognized the need to modernize the media timeline and a precise timetable for this review has now been agreed. In this context, the Walt Disney Company has decided to confirm the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 9.

As previously mentioned, current media timelines are out of sync with viewer behaviors and expectations, are counterproductive, and put all producers and artists at increased risk of piracy. For all these reasons, we share the opinion of the majority of players in our sector who agree that it should be completely revised.

Case strategy

As we have done so far, we will contribute constructively to the reflections and debates with all players in the sector during the next meetings organized under the auspices of the CNC to define the new framework we want from February 2023. To be fair, flexible and incentivized in the theatrical release of films. In the meantime, we will continue to choose our film release strategy on a case-by-case basis.

The president of The Walt Disney Company France, Helene Etzi, wrote on Twitter:

It will be recalled that the American giant has chosen to release the Christmas animated film Avalon, A Strange Journey directly on Disney +.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the kingdom mourns the loss of its king and must face world powers that want to control the vibranium and a new enemy from the depths of the sea: Namor.

Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Tenoch Huerta are among the cast of the Marvel film, which hits our darkrooms on November 9th.

However, Disney elaborates in its press release:Due to the window imposed by the current deadlines, Disney+ subscribers in France will only be able to discover the film on the platform from spring 2024.
