‘Andor’ 1×06 tragically connects with ‘Rogue One’

It has been too soon!

¡spoiler from episode 6 of ‘Andor’ below!

We’re only halfway through the first season of ‘Andor’, and it’s already established itself as one of the best ‘Star Wars’ premieres to date — there you go, ‘The Book of Boba Fett’!

away from the wookiees and the lightsabers of the Skywalker Saga, ‘Andor’ follows in the footsteps of – or rather takes the lead from – ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ during the rise of the Rebel Alliance, while the Empire strangles (at Darth Vader style) to the galaxy.

Serving as a prequel to ‘Rogue One,’ ‘Andor’ (as its name suggests) places Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) at the center of the plot. He is joined by Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma and Forest Whitaker, who reprises his role as Saw Gerrera.

Although ‘Andor’ takes place five years before the events of ‘Rogue One’, there have already been a few nods to its big screen ‘sister’. If you were keeping an eye on ‘The Eye’ on October 12, you might have noticed a tragic connection to Gareth Edwards’ 2016 film.

Given the high death toll in ‘Rogue One’ — and the fact that most of the characters in ‘Andor’ didn’t appear in the expanded canon — all bets were on who would live and who would die during the group’s attack. to the imperial troops.

Although we managed to avoid the classic “bury your gays” with Vel (Faye Marsay) and Cinta (Varada Sethu), we lost Taramyn (Gershwyn Eustache Jr.) and the fate of Lieutenant Gorn (Sule Rimi) has not been fully resolved.

Cassian himself would do a good job with Skeen (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) later on. Nevertheless, it is the death of Karis Nemik (Alex Lawther) that has really touched our hearts.

As Cassian and company made their escape, Nemik was crushed by a load of credits and was left in a very serious state. Although they brought him to Dr. Quadpaw, against Vel’s will, Nemik died on the operating table.

What makes Nemik’s death all the more tragic is the dark link to the fate of another favorite ‘Rogue One’ character. Through twitter, fans were aware that the last word Nemik said to Cassian was “goes up“.

Cassian did not know how to avoid the army that was pursuing them, but thanks to Nemik, they managed to escape from their attackers in the middle of the impressive Eye of Aldahni. Nemik’s repeating “come up” echoes the last thing K-2SO said to Cassian in ‘Rogue One’.

In ‘Rogue One’, the robot sacrificed itself under a hail of bullets and closed the doors of the data chamber on Scarif. This allowed Cassian and Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) to escape with the plans for the Death Star.

Were it not for K-2SO’s sacrifice, we would have seen a very different ‘Star Wars’, in which Luke and the Rebellion would have failed to take down the Death Star, Darth Vader would have triumphed, and Sheev Palpatine would have reigned forever.

Nemik’s death may not seem like a big deal, but with 80 million stolen galactic credits under the Empire’s nose, Aldahni’s swindle has rattled the Imperial Security Office and is likely to finance the rebel insurgency.

As a final act, Nemik presented Cassian with his manifesto, which he called “The role of mercenaries in the galactic fight for freedom.” This proves that he always trusted Cassian and that, although it seemed like any other book, it could turn out to be a key element in recruiting Cassian to the cause.

If it wasn’t important why starwars.com would he have updated his official database to include a specific article on Nemik’s musings? Let’s remember that we are still 5 years before the mission in Scarif of ‘Rogue One’, and right now, Cassian is just a mercenary for hire.

It’s unclear where we go next, but with Cassian about to return to Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) on Coruscant, everyone’s intentions will become clearer in the second half of the season.

As for K-2SO, this nod to his final destination seems like a good link for the character to get to ‘Andor’. Although Alan Tudyk said that he would not return as K-2SO in this first season, since TotalFilm Luna was recently asked about the character’s timeline in the second batch, and she said: “Our next season ends where ‘Rogue One’ begins, so I think that says it all.

Sadly, we already know how the story ends for K-2SO, just as we know what will happen with Cassian’s last mission. However, with another 18 episodes of ‘Andor’ before the beaches of Scarif open up before our eyes, let’s enjoy the shady mercenary and his expanding circle of “rogue scum” while we can.

‘Andor’ airs weekly, on Wednesdays, on Disney+.
