The Rings of Power on Prime Video: Episode 8’s final dedication hides the return of the king.

The season finale of The Rings of Power caused a lot of ink to be spilled, especially on its major revelations regarding certain big mysteries, such as the identity of Sauron or the Unknown.

Another little mystery may have caught viewers off guard at the beginning of the end credits of episode 8, punctuated by a famous line from the reels written by Tolkien and sung by Fiona Apple.

The following caption can be read before the credits: “Dedicated to Dr. John Dundee Payne: 1946 – 2021 – Now in the far green land, in the sweet sunrise” (Dedicated to Dr. John Dundee Paine, Now in the Far Green Land Beneath the Rising Sun).

But who is this Dr. John Dundee Payne who receives this powerful tribute? It just happens to be the father of the series’ showrunner, JD Payne, who died in 2021 at the age of 75.

Dr. Payne grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He became a psychiatrist after attending Northwestern Medical School. During his studies, he met Dr. Lillian Marlene Jones. They would have three children together, Jennifer, Jade (also John Dundee) and Heather.

So his son paid a beautiful tribute at the end of the last episode of the first season of Rings of Power. A little phrase that emphasizes loyalty, “Far Green Land Under the Rising Sun”There is a Tolkien quote from The Lord of the Rings.

These words are presented return of the king, when Frodo sees a vision of Valinor as he sails across the Undying Lands. In Peter Jackson’s film adaptation, Gandalf says this phrase to Pippin to convince him of life after death.
