Warning, spoilers. It is recommended that you watch Episode 9 of House of the Dragon before continuing reading this article.
If there’s one sequence that will stand out to fans in Episode 9 of House of the Dragon, it’s the end of the chapter titled “Council of Greens.” As the coronation of Aegon Targaryen, son of Alycent Hightower and Viserys Targaryen, got under way, the celebration was interrupted by a literally explosive appearance.
From the surfaces of the Great Sept emerge Rhaenys and his dragon foxes, destroying many things along the way, mostly knights and subjects of the realm. It was previously locked away by Alicent, the queen who never managed to escape to show all her power to the greens.
But while he could burn everything in his path (along with the “Dracari”), Rhaenys would not kill Alicent, the usurper Aegon, and the rest of their family. And this is for the simple reason of the book “Dance of Dragons”. Fire and blood, from which the series is adapted, is inevitable. And if the greens are gone, there’s nothing left to tell (or a completely different story).
And the series follows the events of George RR Martin’s novel, with a few exceptions. Indeed, this epic Rhaenys scene could not have appeared in the TV series because it simply does not exist in the book!
This is a free add-on from the writers of Dragon House that allows for a dramatic twist and an extra emotional layer. Even if fans were treated to this crazy sequence, why was this new scene added?

Eva BestRhaenys’ translator answered this question during the interview Entertainment Weekly :
“It’s a moment where he shows that he’s the best leader. It was the most outrageous and explosive action of the season. In a way, it’s also the most merciful and the most graceful. He’s so smart, and at the end of the day. He chooses to make the right decision that doesn’t There’s destruction. It’s a really forgiving moment and kind of a loving moment, in a weird way.
He has all the ammunition and the desire for revenge is too great. He has suffered so much loss and for himself and on behalf of so many others, the urge to destroy is too strong. And yet, the choice not to destroy becomes even stronger. It’s a sign of greatness and a really inspiring moment – I actually think it’s especially relevant to the context that we’re experiencing in our world right now with everything that’s going on with Russia. The choice not to drop the bombs is the biggest choice.”
on his side Claire KilnerThe director of episode 9 sees great symbolism in this: We wanted him to rise from the ashes like a phoenix. But he also wanted a moment of deep communication between Rhaenys and Alicent, where their previous conversation still resonated: “I think he learns a lot from that moment because Aegon is pushing him behind and standing in front of him and he’s ready to die.”
eve for the best “She pretends to be her mother” And the actor thinks that “Rhaenys understands and respects that”. Therefore, there is no violence between Rhaenys and Alicent, at least for the time being, as the Queen Who Never Was informs the Blacks of the situation in episode ten, officially beginning hostilities between the Blacks and the Greens.
