House of the Dragon: This Targaryen child has yet to appear in the series, and here’s why

As we approach the end of the inaugural season of House of the Dragon, the political chessboard is slowly being stacked and divided between two opposing factions. Whether it’s on the green side (Alyssant Hightower et al.) or the black side (Rhaenyra Targaryen et al.), there are people preparing to fight.

And for the famous civil war “Dance of Dragons”, which is approaching, the heirs of the Targaryen dynasty are in the ranks. A lot of babies have been born since the series started, and sometimes we get a little lost.

Which Targaryen child is missing?

Rhaenyra Targaryen had three children, Jacqueris (Harry Collette), Lucerys (Elliot Grieholt) and Joffrey with Leonor Velarion (whose biological father is actually Ser Harwyn Forty, Rhaenyra’s former lover), then other children with her uncle and now husband Damon Targaryen. .

The latter previously had two daughters, Baela (Bethany Antonia) and Reena (Phoebe Campbell) with Laena Velarion. In turn, Alycent Hightower and his late wife, King Viserys Targaryen, had three children, Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney), Helena (Fia Saban) and Emond (Iwan Mitchell).

And yet, the child is missing. Indeed, Alicent and Viserys had four children, not three! The youngest is called Daeron Targaryen. He is present in the book Fire and Blood, from which the series is adapted, but does not appear in the show. And there is a reason for that.

Author George Martin explained Daeron’s absence from the first season of House of the Dragon in a post on his personal blog: “Yes, Alicent gave Viserys four children, three sons and one daughter. Their youngest son, Daeron, is in Villeville. We just didn’t have time to integrate him this season.” Therefore, Daeron is currently in Wilville, the headquarters of House Hightower. But we should see him appear in House of the Dragon season 2, already ordered, as he will take part in the battle between the greens and the blacks.
