Josh Brolin has returned to the world of series with ‘Outer Range’, the most mysterious series of the season on Amazon Prime Video. The actor leads the cast of this western that mixes family drama with supernatural suspense, and in an exclusive interview he gives us the keys to the project, from his role as executive producer to his contemporary readings for the pandemic era.
‘Outer Range’, which It has been released this Friday, April 15, centers on Royal Abbott (Brolin), a rancher who fights for his land and his family in the face of mysteries that unfold in a Wyoming wilderness. At first, they are faced with the disappearance of their daughter-in-law Rebecca, but the real problems will come when the Tillersons, owners of the neighboring ranch, want to seize their land. A death in the community triggers a series of events and The problems of the local families are overshadowed by the arrival of a mysterious hole in the Abbott lands.. ‘Outer Range’, a different western
This series is not the typical one about the Wild West, according to Josh Brolin, and he knows what he is talking about: the actor has participated in two of the best westerns in the history of cinema, ‘No country for old men’ and ‘Courage of law’ , and also starred in television proposals such as ‘Young Riders’. “This one is different in that it’s just a western and it takes us back to a simpler time, or a simpler mindset, even though it’s a contemporary western”, tells FRAMES. “There’s something about quiet, about being in perpetual quiet, and how people deal with that, that’s very appealing to a lot of people,” Brolin adds, referencing the COVID situation: “These are very wide spaces that, with the Covid mindset, people want to prioritize what’s important in their life. People want space, and this is the ultimate space. And then you have that space and you can create your own reality in that space if you’re not careful, which can be repressive or delusional”.
Brolin shares a cast with Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie and Will Patton. His character, Royal Abbott, is your typical western hero, but the series sets out to deconstruct him. “You have this character who is so upright, at least to the gallery, and who wants to protect his family, but in the end what breaks the family from within is his fault, it’s his secrets, it’s what he represses. It’s his inability to talk about things. And that’s what’s so western about him, he’s the typical western hero, and the show turns him upside down and shows the aftermath, which I find very interesting and fascinating”Brolin explains to us in a part of the interview that you can see in full in the video that crowns this article.

‘Outer Range’ is Josh Brolin’s first series in twenty years. Why has he decided to return? “I think it was something that I found acceptable. Television is a different medium today, different from the television that I rejected at one point in my career and that did not interest me”confesses to FOTOGRAMAS, assuring that offers have not been lacking in these two decades in which he has dedicated himself exclusively to cinema, with such successful films as ‘Dune’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (for the clueless: Josh Brolin is Thanos) .
“Other people had come up before with other proposals, but they weren’t topics I wanted to be working on for a whole year and especially if it went ahead for another two or three years. But there was something about this [‘Outer Range’], there was something in the way it was written, because I was also looking for a western. I like the hybrids and the contrasts that add a supernatural element to the story, and also a metaphysical one, but more than anything, I loved how that alchemy provoked people’s behavior”, bill. The star also admits that shooting a movie is very different from a series, and even more so when he takes on a different role: Brolin is not only the lead, but also a very committed executive producer.
