Last Sunday (23) ended the first phase of “House of the Dragon”, with the release of the tenth episode of the first season of the series. The story of this latest chapter has brought exciting contours and shocked many fans of the franchise.
After the events of the last episodes of the “House of the Dragon”, the conflicts between Greens and Blacks in House Targaryen have begun once and for all. Queen Alicent Hightower misinterpreted King Viserys’ last words and named her son Aegon Targaryen as successor to the Iron Throne.
Later, Rhaenyra Targaryen is informed by Rhaenys Targaryen of her father’s death and the Black Council rushes to rally their allies across the realm, looking for those who remained true to the original oath, when Viserys named Rhaenyra as his heir to the throne. Despite the foreseen scenario for a war, the princess was opposed to the start of bloody battles.
So, in this search for allies, Jacaerys and Lucerys Velaryon, sons of Rhaenyra, traveled with the dragon to Winterfell in the North and Storm’s End in the South, respectively. From that point on, we have only followed the trajectory of the youngest son, who sought the support of Lord Borros Baratheon.
At House Baratheon, Lucerys comes face to face with his uncle, Aemond Targaryen, who never forgave his nephew for taking his eyes off when they were children. After leaving the place, Lucerys, on his dragon Arrax, is chased by Aemond, who commands the giant Vhagar.
At this point the shocking scene of the last episode occurs. With the chase, Arrax feels insecure and breathes fire at Aemond’s dragon, without Lucerys’ order. After that, it was Vhagar’s turn to disobey his owner, biting Arrax and chewing him into pieces – and in doing so, killing Lucerys Velaryon.
Despite the episode showing that Aemond just wanted to scare his nephew and not kill him, the scene was widely spread on social media and many fans mourned the death of Lucerys. Check out some tweets below!
“If the sky were calm, Prince Lucerys might escape his pursuer, because Arrax was younger and faster … but the day was” as dark as Prince Aemond’s heart “
