‘The Fortress’: Exclusive poster for Chiqui Carabante’s black comedy

A story about brothers who seek their identity within a family that is not what it seems.

‘La Fortaleza’ is an intriguing black comedy directed by Chiqui Carabante. The film has been one of the films selected to participate in the 19th edition of the Seville European Film Festival, which will be held from November 4 to 12.

Ferdinand Cayo (‘The paper house’, ‘To heaven’), Goya Toledo (‘Amores Perros’, ‘Poison’), Jose Manuel Poga (‘The paper house’, ‘The infinite trench’), Fernando Tejero (‘The one that is coming’, ‘Model 77’), Vito Sanz (‘Shame,’You have to come see her’), carla grandson (‘Without origin’, ‘Tell me how it happened’) and Lola Casamayor (‘Luis Miguel: La serie’, ‘Vergüenza’) are the protagonists of this hilarious and frenetic ensemble comedy. The film also features the participation of Manolo Solo and Nacho Fresneda.

In addition, this film has the special collaboration of Manuel Zarzo, one of the heavyweights of Spanish cinema. Zarzo is in charge of interpreting the patriarch of the family, Arturo Viaplana. The synopsis is as follows: after the death of Arturo Viaplana, his children attend the reading of the will with the hope of inheriting his great fortune. What they do not know is that his late father has not chosen an heir, but that he has devised as his last will a kind of posthumous joke. To inherit their heritage, the Viaplana brothers will have to overcome a series of tests in a macabre game that will pit them against the family’s best-kept secret.

With a script by Carabante himself along with Salvador S. Molina and David Orea, ‘La Fortaleza’ is, according to its director, “the story of an inheritance. Five characters gathered for twenty-four hours who must fight for the heritage to which each one seems to have a right. A game orchestrated by the deceased. The last one he performs with his children. An entertainment to tell you what he was not able to do in life. A posthumous joke to be together for the last time and be honest with them. This is the main plot line; but underneath there is much more. It is the story of some characters who believe they compete for an inheritance but in reality they are fighting to know who they are in that cosmos called family. The film is therefore the visual representation of an outdated model. The one of those farmhouses lost in the countryside where powerful families continued to enjoy their privileges away from reality. And this family will be faced with continuing that model, or leaving it behind. A) Yes, under the funny plot, we will be able to explore the emotions of these orphan brothers, who search for their identity within a family that is not what it seems“.

The filming of this production has been carried out in various locations in the province of Badajoz, such as Mérida, Almendralejo and Palomas.

The film is produced by Lolita Films, Womack Studios, Featurent, Un Fin De Semana Juntos AIE in association with Glow, with the participation of Canal Sur, with funding from ICAA (Ministry of Culture and Sports- Government of Spain), Crea SGR, sponsored by the Badajoz Provincial Council and the Almendralejo City Council.
