In 1978, after a provocation by Maria Bethanythe poet Wally Solomon wrote the poem The voice of a victorious personwho got the melody from Caetano Veloso. The voice in question was that of Alcione who, according to the verses of Solomon, was “the sun of the high mountain, a bright star”. Celebrating his 50-year career – starting with the release of a single in 1972 -, Hatch is announced as an honorary of the 30th Brazilian Music Award (PMB), which will be held in April 2023.

Alcione also demonstrates her religiosity of her to thank her for having recovered from a spinal surgery that left her away from the stage for three months. Alcione, 74, needed to place four screws in the lumbar region.

The choice of honor at the PMB, born in 1987 as a Sharp award, was made by professional colleagues who are part of the honorary council which, every year, rewards national music releases. in it I am Gilberto Gil, Neymar Matogrosso, Giovanni Bosco, java, Arnaldo Antunes, hemicidal, among others. Alcione will become part of a gallery that already includes names such as Ari Barroso, Vinicio de Moraes, Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, Jackson does Pandeiro, Dorival Caymmi, Rita Lee, among others. Another triumph of the voice of a popular samba singer.

plural voice

“Besides being a great performer, Alcione is unanimous in being loved by her colleagues and respected by the whole class. Her musical world is plural, from bolero to funk,” says businessman José Maurício Machline, creator of the award, which returns after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Machline, who currently has a partnership with Heloisa Guarita in conducting the PMB, states that Alcione is the second artist with the most awards and the one who has participated most in the tributes to other artists, such as the one who, in the first edition, celebrated Vinicio de Moraes.

The singer and composer João Bosco defines Alcione a “great popular interpreter”. “I have had the privilege of singing with her a few times. It was an honor for me. Now I will have that pleasure of sitting in the theater applauding this well deserved tribute,” he says.

Alcione tells about his career brown the musicalin Miguel Falabella, scheduled until November 7 at the Sérgio Cardoso Theater in San Paolo. With 23 actors on stage, the show starts from the bumba meu boi of Maranhão, land of Alcione, to trace the singer’s success trajectory.

“I’ve already kicked ass for this Brazil and for this world, huh?” Says Alcione, speaking of his five decades on the road. Daughter of a father teacher of the Maranhão Military Police band and music teacher, João Carlos Nazareth, Alcione took the stage for the first time as a teenager. She was a club in São Luiz, where she was born, accompanied by her father’s orchestra. she sang a song of Angela Maria. “It was a dance, everyone danced. When I sang, everyone stopped to listen to me. It became a show. I never sang to make people dance again.”

At first linked to the Jazz it’s at blues who knew through the great voices of Ella Fitzgerald And Mahalia Jackson – Eldorado label files retain what would have been his first album, never released, with songs like yesterday And The shadow of your smile -, Alcione fell into the samba at the suggestion of the composer Roberto Menescalthen director of Philips.

won support from Jair Rodrigues, an established samba musician, released his first album in 1975, with the evocative title of A Voz do Samba. Immediately, he scored two hits: Don’t let Samba die And the deaf. He began to contest the preference of the public with the already famous Clara Nunes And Beth Carvalho.

Friendship

Alcione says there has never been competition between them. Nor between her and other singers who eventually also recorded samba … Elis Regina, Gal Costa And Maria Bethany – and that, inevitably, disputed repertoires and composers. “I’ve never faced it. I’ve always thought it was very nice to participate in the glory of these singers. I’m honored to have met Clara. I met Elis in the studios of the record company. She was a very distinguished person,” he says.

Regarding the next steps in his career, the “victorious voice” prefers to respond by singing, by telephone, to the report of the Estadio. “Sing and sing and sing the beauty of being an eternal apprentice” (excerpt from the passage Which is? Which is?by Gonzaguinha).

As for the music that Wally Salomão made in his consecration, Alcione, who never recorded it, promises to one day. “After Bethânia has recorded, it becomes difficult, right, colleague?” He says praising one of his great friends in the art world.
