“I talk to James almost every day”
Marvel boss, Kevin Feige has responded to the news that director James Gunn will be taking over Worlds of DC as co-CEO alongside ‘The Suicide Squad’ producer Peter Safran..
Since the news was announced, fans have been speculating about how Feige would react to one of his most prized employees running a rival studio.but luckily for Gunn, he’s nothing more than a prop.
“I talk to James almost every day. We have a wonderful thing called ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Christmas Special’ coming out. We have a wonderful thing called ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ coming out in May.” Feige told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I don’t know how he’s going to have time to work in DC until May, but once he has time, I’ll be really excited. I’ll be first in line.”
James Gunn gained massive notoriety after directing the first two ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies at Marvel before being fired from the third installment when some offensive tweets he had written in the past resurfaced.
Although he was eventually rehired in 2019, during that farewell time at Marvel, DC hired him to direct ‘The Suicide Squad’thus making a different and free version of David Ayer’s from 2016. Later, Marvel knocked on their doors again to go ahead with the third part.
Gunn later addressed the rivalry between Marvel and DC fans by saying that Feige was “very big and supportive” of him working at DC.
In his new position, Gunn will focus on the creative side of the projects, while Safran will focus on production and business.. Both will continue directing and producing their own projects.
In a joint statement, Gunn and Safran said: “We are honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we have loved since we were kids, we look forward to collaborating with the world’s most talented writers, directors and actors to create an integrated universe of multiple layers that still allow for individual expression by the artists involved.
He added, “We’re excited to invigorate the experience in theaters around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful and greatest stories ever told.”
To this news of his new contract within the DCEU, his new secret film is added that the studio has commissioned the director of ‘The Suicide Squad’.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2’ are available on Disney+. ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ will arrive on the platform later this year, and the long-awaited third part, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3’ will arrive on May 5, 2023.
