Anthony and Kate, Colin and Penelope, Eloise and Theo… The new season of ‘The Bridgertons’ has surprised us with a few splendid couples that have made us forget Daphne and Simon.
(Beware, spoilers for season 2)
The long-awaited second season of ‘The Bridgertons’ premiered a few days ago and has set a new record for English-language series (for all streaming platforms). The Netflix series accumulated 251 million hours viewed in the first seven days
And it is that the new eight episodes have arrived full of new couples with whom (and it seemed difficult), they have made us forget Daphne and Simon. With the new characters, there is no shortage of couples and the series explores a variety of story lines with each new relationship.
Filled with forbidden romances and more than one love triangle, the couples of the second season have the audience spending the footage trying to guess who will stay together and what the characters are finally willing to do for love.
Prudence Featherington and Jack Featherington
The Featherington girls are in for a surprise when the new Lord Featherington (Rupert Young) appears who was supposed to ‘raise them out of poverty’ and who comes from America, where he has ruby mins. When he shows up at the house, the older sisters say, “I thought the heir was old” and “I thought the heir was ugly,” to which the Lord replies, “He was ugly and old. So old that he died.” . This is one of the funniest relationships of the season, between Prudence and her distant cousin Jack, a relationship that starts ‘by accident’. Prudence Featherington (Bessie Carter) is conscientious enough to know that she must play along and naive enough to hope for a real romance. Little does she know of the conspiracies and flirtations between her mother and Jack…
Kate Sharma and Thomas Dorset
At the races at Ascot Racecourse, as Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) tries to calm down from her ‘hate’ for Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), she gets some attention from Bridgerton’s friend, Thomas Dorset (Sam Frenchum). Although it was originally a set up by Anthony to keep Kate distracted, the chemistry between Thomas and Kate is natural. As we see in some other episode, Kate seems to relax next to him, she is interested in him and although she never had him in mind for anything else, they seem to be very good friends.
Lady Featherington and Jack Featherington
The public may suspect what is going to happen. At first, the pair completely disagree on how to govern the new order of the Featherington family, but their financial situation intertwines their destinies and causes the two to team up to scheme ways to make money. As Portia shows her cunning and Jack plays along, the two begin a flirty relationship. When her plan is revealed, Portia turns the tables on Jack and sends him back to America.
Benedict Bridgerton and Tessa
Benedict, the second brother of the Bridgertons and who will hopefully be the protagonist of season 3, is the most bohemian of all and English at the School of Fine Arts. On the first day, he meets Tessa, a model who poses nude for his art class. Later that night, he returns her favor by posing nude for her, thus starting an affair. This relationship begins in the middle of the season and in the end it remains uncertain because Benedict abandons his studies when he finds out that he was accepted thanks to Anthony’s donation.
Anthony Bridgerton and Edwina Sharma
On paper, the relationship between Anthony and Edwina (Charithra Chandran) is perfect: she ticks all the boxes for the ideal wife, and he is everything she’s ever dreamed of. But no one admits the truth until her wedding day, when Edwina sees Anthony’s feelings for Kate at the altar and, for the first time in her life, she decides for herself and chooses not to go through with it. marriage. She later explains to Kate, “I don’t want to play a role anymore, I want to really get to know myself.”
Queen Charlotte and King George
Nobody knew if King George was going to appear in the series… but he did. For a short time, but just enough to confirm that there is a real feeling between him and Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel). The King (James Fleet) bursts into the room while the Queen is having an audience with Edwina. The King believes it is his own wedding day and expresses his excitement at the fireworks and his beautiful bride. The Queen is shocked at first, embarrassed and then moved by the state of her husband. Afterward, Edwina tells the Queen, “All I have ever witnessed is the love a king shares with his queen, and nothing more.”
Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington
When Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) returns early in the season from his tour of Greece, he runs into his good friend Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), who has secretly had a crush on him for some time. His time away from her has made him realize how much he values Penelope in her life. When he expresses this to Penelope, she is absolutely delighted, however, Colin still has other relationships in mind, namely Marina Thompson (Ruby Barker). Young Bridgerton is heartbroken and blames Lady Whistledown for her misfortune.
Lord Edmund and Lady Violet Bridgerton
One of the great ideas of this second season has been to introduce us to Lord Edmund Bridgerton (Rupert Evans) and attend his final moments, when he dies after being stung by a bee. Shortly before, he is picking flowers for his wife whom he knows she will “adore”; in the last seconds of his life, he shares a look of love with his wife. Desperate, Ella must give birth to their last child together while the doctor forces Anthony to choose “her or the baby.” The relationship between Lady Violet and Lord Edmund went very deep and she encourages her son Anthony to follow her heart and have a similar one.
Eloise Bridgerton and Theo Sharpe
Eloise (Claudia Jessie) has found love outside the ballroom, in the person of Theo Sharpe (Calam Lynch), one of the best new characters this season. The relationship is not viewed socially well, but it is very suitable for Eloise because her relationship is a meeting of minds. They share a love of reading and exploring different ways of thinking. They’re young, their relationship is innocent, and it’s a refreshing change of pace compared to other relationships in the series. Eloise puts an end to her budding romance at the end of the season following Penelope’s advice, but… will they get another chance in ‘The Bridgertons 3’?
Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma
Anthony and Kate’s relationship is the star of the second season. It’s love at first sight when they meet on horseback in the park. The chemistry between them is palpable in every subsequent scene; but they ignore what they feel to protect Edwina. A turning point in her relationship is when Kate is stung by a bee and calms Anthony during her panic attack by placing her hand on her heart. One of the biggest plot differences between the second season and the book is that in the book, Anthony and Kate are not in love yet at the time, but instead are discovered by their parents and forced to marry. They fall in love later. Which of the two arguments do you prefer?
