“House of the Dragon”: Laenor may return with another identity

Laenor Velaryon, Rhaenyra’s first husband in “House of the Dragon,” has met a different fate than the book and the series would hardly make that change without a reason. But can the character’s return have a different identity?

Laenor’s fate was left open in the first season of the “House of the Dragon” series, something other than the book. In “Fire and Blood,” the book written by George RR Martin on which the series is based, Laenor is murdered by her friend and lover, Qarl Correy, and rumor has it that Daemon was behind her.

However, in episode 7 of the first season of the series, a change occurs: Laenor appears alive at the end of the episode, fleeing Westeros after faking her own death with the help of Qarl. The plan was forged by Rhaenyra and Daemon so that the two could marry, without the need to sacrifice their ally.

Laenor’s future is still unknown and he’s not featured on “Fire and Blood,” but HBO wouldn’t change the storyline in the adaptation without a reason. Additionally, Laenor Fumaresia’s dragon will play an important role in the future of the story by connecting with another knight and it is canon in this universe for a dragon to only connect with one dragon at a time, which would be a deterrent for the knight. serious, as Laenor is very much alive.

But if Laenor Velaryon is likely to return to “House of the Dragon”, how would that happen? A theory created by fans on Reddit (via ScreenRant) can explain how this would have come about, and involves Laenor taking on the identity of another character, who has not yet been introduced to the series, but plays a key role in the Dance of the Dragons and the plans of the Blacks, a group that supports Rhaenyra .

Addam hull

Although by the time the series reunites, Laenor is likely to be in Essos, the other continent of the World of Ice and Fire, her story isn’t over yet. Daemon pointed out in the Season 1 finale that the Blacks have access to several disassembled dragons, which should be the focus of Season 2.

In the book, Prince Jacaerys Velaryon and his grandfather Corlys Velaryon invite men and women to attempt to take the dragons of Dragonstone that have no horsemen, or those that are wild and have never been ridden. This period is known as the Sowing, an attempt to elevate Rhaenyra’s powers in war by adding more dragons to the equation.

The theory holds that Laenor could assume the identity of Addam de Hoof, a silver-haired man whose mother claims to be Laenor’s bastard son, as well as his brother, Alyn. The two appear in the sowing, and the legitimacy of this claim is questioned by many, as everyone knew Laenor was gay. Therefore, it is believed that the two brothers are actually sons of Lord Corlys Velaryon.

Many people die trying to conquer dragons. Alyn himself ends up burned and injured after a failed attempt to become an assembler. But some succeed and become dragon knights. One of them is Addam, who conquers Fumaresia, the dragon of Laenor.

Addam becomes a warrior in Rhaenyra’s army and is legitimized as Velaryon, being named heir to Driftmark at the request of Corlys.

The theory for Laenor’s return to the “House of the Dragon”

According to the theory, Rhaenyra would send a message to Laenor, stating that she needs more dragon knights to participate in the war against the Greens. Since Laenor is alive, Fumaresia will not be able to ally with another Knight and Rhaenyra can ask Laenor to return to Westeros to help her in the war.

The theory says that Rhaenyra would have told Corlys and Rhaenys Velaryon that her son Laenor is alive, and the two would have helped convince him to return. But since he was presumed dead, Laenor can assume the identity of Addam de Hoof, a mere bastard of Velaryon, which would also help not make the marriage between Rhaenyra and Daemon illegitimate.

Furthermore, the theory holds that the Blacks would start rumors that Addam is a bastard son of Corlys and half-brother of Laenor, to make this story more believable. It is unclear in this scenario whether there would be an Alyn de Hoof, but it is possible that Corlys indeed has a bastard child.

The first season of “House of the Dragon” is available on HBO Max.
