Netflix has announced another game adaptation for TV: the time-honored “Gears of War” franchise, from Microsoft and Xbox, will win live action and animated series.
As for the live action, Netflix is known to be partnering with the game’s production company, The Coalition, to build the film, but there is still no information on the cast, production or even the release date.
The series will be aimed at the public, with the possibility of “more stories” after its conclusion, or during its production and exhibition. It revolves around the Locust, an aggressive species that nearly destroyed human civilization.
The original “Gears of War” trilogy centered on veteran Marcus Fenix, but more recent games and spin-offs have focused on his son, JD, his frequent ally, Baird, and rebel soldier Kait.
Fight on consoles and streaming
With The Coalition not announcing a new “Gears of War” game, a double production on the game on Netflix is the best thing that could happen to Microsoft, because, in addition to keeping the franchise in evidence, it is still starting to beat ahead with Sony, which has expanded its universes from consoles to TV, such as the future series “Horizon” and “God of War” and the films “Uncharted”.
Another blockbuster saga that is about to leave consoles and expand (again) to TV is “The Last of Us,” which already has a 2016 movie, but will now have a series format on HBO Max.
