A fire destroyed a home in rural Nevada County, Northern California on Friday night, killing one of the owner’s dogs. Authorities are investigating whether this is related to a glowing fireball seen in the region’s skies just minutes earlier.
According to Dustin Procita, he was inside the residence with his two dogs when something hit the roof, causing the fire. “I heard a big bang and then I started to smell the smoke. When I went to my balcony, I saw everything completely engulfed in flames ”.
He told the local TV station KCRA 3 that he had just fed the cows and was sitting on the sofa listening to music when he heard the sound of something hitting his house.
The farmer managed to save only one of his Rat Terriers, the other died in the fire. “I tried to go through the windows, but the fire and smoke were spreading and I couldn’t see inside,” Procita said.

Firefighters from Penn Valley and Smartsville counties reportedly battled the blaze for several hours.
“I always watched meteor showers as a kid, but I never thought one would land in my backyard or on my roof,” Procita said.
According to Penn Valley firefighter captain Josh Miller, it will take about two weeks to complete the analysis and to determine if the cause of the fire is in fact related to a meteorite fall.
It is important to underline that, in this period of the year, the southern Taurine meteor shower occurs, whose peak occurred exactly between last Friday and Saturday (5 °). However, according to NASA, none of the fragments of any of the meteorites seen on Friday have ever touched the ground or ignited fires.
On Sunday, William Cooke, manager of the agency’s Meteoroid Office, told ABC10 that when most meteorites hit the ground, they are usually already cold.
