The film was going to focus on ‘The Bent Man’, whom we met in ‘The Warren File: The Enfield Affair’.
A spin-off of ‘The Warren File’ has been canceled, according to the creator of the horror film franchise, James Wan.
The tape was intended to focus on ‘The Man With The Bent’, a character who first appeared in ‘The Warren File: The Enfield Affair’. However, the filmmaker has commented that this project has been scrapped.
In an Instagram post, Wan posed next to the figure of the villain and revealed that the spin-off in development was left out of the game, writing: “Remembering my tall friend, the Stooped Man, played by the amazing @jbotet(Javier Botet).
“Javier’s movement is almost supernatural. There are those who criticized the character for being made with special effects. I recorded it in slow motion and it was played in reverse — little old school tricks.“
“And no, unfortunately, the movie spin-off of this character will not occur. He is out of my control. Maybe one day. #theconjuring #theconjuring2 #thecrookedman“
The cancellation is not really a surprise, since there has been little news of this project since its announcement in 2017.
Wan has expanded ‘The Conjuring’ Universe since the first film in 2013, with ‘Bound by Demon’ being its most recent release (last year). A fourth film is currently in development and is scheduled for release in 2026.
Between the spin offs we find ‘Annabelle’ (2014), with two sequels of its own from 2017 and 2019. The next film in this saga will be ‘The Nun 2’, which plans to be released next year.
The sequel to the 2018 film will once again feature Taissa Farmiga leading the cast of ‘The Nun 2’, in the role of Sister Irene, whose task will be to uncover the truth behind the death of a French priest.
Wan recently announced that filming had begun, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo, captioned: “The photography team has started with ‘The Nun 2’ in France! With @michaelchaves doing an exorcism (directing) in this one. #theconjuringuniverse #theconjuring #thenun“.
Wan’s next film will be ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, which is scheduled for release on December 25, 2023.
