One of the coolest areas in Netflix’s catalog is comic specials, and now the company is going further in this niche and will make Chris Rock the first artist to perform live on the Tudum stream.
Then Netflix will be using its live streaming technology for the first time, with a Chris Rock comedian special chosen for his debut in a global broadcast. In May, it was revealed that Netflix was experimenting with this technology for live streaming.
Chris Rock already had another Netflix special premiered after Will Smith’s infamous Oscars incident. Rock has been on his Ego Death tour for the past few months and at a concert in London he promised he would discuss more about his Oscar experience on Netflix.
“People expect me to talk about bullshit, I won’t talk about it now, eventually I’ll get to it on Netflix,” he said at the time (via Deadline🇧🇷 The new special also marks Rock’s second special in partnership with Netflix, following 2018’s “Tamborine”. He also appeared at the “Netflix is a Joke” festival alongside Dave Chappelle earlier this year.
“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” said Robbie Praw, vice president of Stand-up and Comedy Formats at Netflix. “We are thrilled that the whole world can experience a Chris Rock live comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we are so honored that Chris carries this torch ”.
The Chris Rock comedy special to be broadcast live has not yet had a title revealed, and will take place in 2023, on an undefined date as well.
