‘Enola Holmes 3’: What could it be, according to the books? Sherlock will need Enola’s help.

Since premiering in November on Netflix, “Enola Holmes 2” has been among the most popular on the platform, thanks to its star-studded cast including Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill.

The first film was based on the young adult novels by Nancy Springer. It premiered in 2020 and was one of the most popular productions on Netflix, so a sequel was quickly approved and put into production.

In the second film we see Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft (Sam Claflin), at the helm of her own detective agency.

Although things don’t look too good at first, everything changes when he receives his first case. While investigating the disappearance of a girl, he enters a match factory and uncovers a large conspiracy.

Now, with the success of the first two films and the post-credits scene of the sequel, it’s very likely that Netflix will give the green light to complete the trilogy and Millie Bobby Brown will have another adventure as a detective.

How were the ‘Enola Holmes’ books created?

The character of Enola Holmes is the brainchild of author Nancy Springer, who set out to redefine the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In September 2021, he revealed to “The Nerd Daily” how the concept of Enola was born.

The author said her editor, Michael Green, suggested she write about Jack the Ripper and the darker and grimmer moments in London, but she wasn’t too convinced.

He remembered that the Sherlock Holmes stories take place at that time, so he decided to write about a daughter of the famous detective. However, that didn’t fit his character and he better change it for a sister.

‘Enola Holmes 3’: what could it be, according to the books?

Although the movies have strayed a bit from the books, they retain the essence of the plot. An example is that in the written version Sherlock also discovers the code that Enola and her mother communicate with through the newspapers.

Regarding a third movie, Millie Bobby Brown told “Screen Rant” on November 2, 2022 that she would love to do another movie where she solves more cases and sees Enola grow up and mature.

“I would love to be a part of another one. I’d like to see her take on more cases, be pushed, be in crazy situations, make her feel vulnerable again. I will be very happy to see her work again.”

The most logical thing would be for the third film to be based on book number three of the saga, entitled “The Case of the Strange Bouquet of Flowers”. In this story, Enola learns of the disappearance of Sherlock’s partner and best friend, Dr. John Watson.

With the “Enola Holmes 2” post-concert scene featuring Dr. Watson (Himesh Patel) with Sherlock and has them living together at 221B Baker Street, things are set for the third film.

In this way, the story of “The case of the strange bouquets of flowers” could be adapted with the plot focusing on the disappearance of Watson, who was kidnapped and locked in an insane asylum.

Sherlock would enlist the help of his sister Enola to solve the case and find his dear friend. Even with the revelation that Moriarty (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) is a woman in this universe, the Holmes family villain could be behind it all.
