Actor Alec Baldwin won the news after director Halyna Hutchins died during the filming of the film ‘Rust.’ Cleared of the accidental shooting that claimed his life, the actor will now sue the production team for malpractice.
The targets of the lawsuit are: gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez Reed, first assistant director David Halls, owner Sarah Zachry, and handgun and cartridge supplier Seth Kenney.
“This tragedy occurred because live ammunition was delivered to the set and loaded into the gun. Gutierrez-Reed didn’t check the bullets or the gun carefully, Halls didn’t check the gun carefully and even announced that the gun was safe before handing it to Baldwin, and Zachry didn’t reveal that Gutierrez-Reed was behaving thoughtless off set and was a safety risk to those around him,” reads the complaint from Baldwin’s attorney, Quinn Emanuel.
According to the information of the Deadline, the lawyers also appealed the damage that the accident caused in the professional life of the actor. “Baldwin has lost countless job opportunities and associated income,” Emanuel said. “For example, he was fired from several jobs specifically because of the Rust incident and passed over for other opportunities, which is a direct result of the negligence of defendants Gutierrez-Reed, Halls, Kenney and Zachry.”
In an interview for a podcast in August of this year, Alec Baldwin insisted he didn’t pull the trigger and wondered who would be to blame for the live ammunition in the gun. The actor spoke to host Chris Cuomo after the FBI concluded in its forensic report that the gun used in the incident that killed the cinematographer could not have fired without the trigger being pulled.
The investigation into Hutchins’ death is still ongoing.
