Studio “Spirited Away” to make the Star Wars movie

A new production of “Star Wars” may be in the works of Studio Ghibli, which has produced such hits as “Spirited Away” and “Princess Mononoke.” In recent days, the Japanese studio has shared an image and a video on Twitter indicating a possible partnership with the Disney franchise.

Last Thursday (10), the official profile of Studio Ghibli brought a 15-second teaser showing the logos of the Japanese studio and Lucasfilm, producer of “Star Wars”. The publication soon intrigued fans and many were already betting on a partnership between the companies.

A day later, this Friday (11th), Studio Ghibli returned to cryptic posts and posted a photo of a small figurine of Grogu, the iconic Baby Yoda from “The Mandalorian”. Shortly after, the official ‘Star Wars’ account all but confirmed the partnership, retweeting the post and leaving a “wide-eyed” emoji.

Also, director Hayao Miyazaki can be seen in the background in the photo released by the studio. Miyazaki is a legendary director and one of the founders of Studio Ghibli, having directed and written several films such as ‘Spirited Away’, ‘Princess Mononoke’, ‘Lives in the Wind’ and ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’.

Right now, with no further details revealed, several fans of the two companies are speculating about this possible production. Some people are betting on a Christmas short about Grogu and other users are speculating on what an anime-style production will look like.

If Studio Ghibli’s production is officially confirmed, it would not be the first time that “Star Wars” in this Japanese animation model. In 2021, several renowned studios in Japan built their own franchise stories in the anime format, which formed the anthology series ‘Star Wars: Visions’.

Two ‘Star Wars’ series will return next year, with the release of the third and second seasons of ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Bad Batch’ respectively. Furthermore, 2023 is also the forecast for the release of “Ahsoka”, which will tell other adventures of the character Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice before he became the villain Darth Vader.

The studio post for ‘Spirited Away’ will show a Star Wars film for the first time on Olhar Digital.
