Italian selected to referee the opening match of the World Cup


Daniele Orsato will referee the match between Qatar and Ecuador

Italian referee Daniele Orsato was appointed this Friday (18) to referee the opening match of the 2022 World Cup, which will be played between Qatar and Ecuador.

Orsato, 46, is one of the most experienced referees in Italian football and is a constant presence at major tournaments in Europe.

During the 2018 edition of the sporting mega-event, Orsato was selected by FIFA to remain at the VAR.

The duel between the host team of the World Cup and Ecuador is scheduled for Sunday (20), at the Al Bayt stadium, in Al Khor. The ball will roll from 1pm (Brasilia time).

Born in Montecchio Maggiore, Orsato has been on the refereeing board of football’s highest governing body since 2010 and is one of the most awarded referees in the European country. 🇧🇷
