“Power Rangers”: where are the actors of the first version?

This Sunday, “Power Rangers” fans were shocked by the announcement of the death of Jason David Frank, the actor who brought the first Green Ranger to life. But where are the other actors who gave life to the group in its first formation?

The American franchise began with the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” series, known in Brazil simply as “Power Rangers”, which had three initial seasons between 1993 and 1995, with changes for another season in 1996. In 1995 , the franchise won its first film.

The first lineup of the Power Rangers group consisted of Austin St. John, Thuy Trang, Walter Emanuel Jones, Amy Jo Johnson, David Yost and Jason David Frank. With the death of the original green ranger, where are the other actors who started the hit franchise?

Austin St. John – Red Ranger

The first leader of the Power Rangers was Austin St. John, when the actor was only 20 years old. However, S. John asked for a raise at the time after airing 80 episodes and was eventually fired.

Though he made peace with the production years later and returned for a few cameos, Austin gave up acting to become a paramedic. He was recently arrested for defrauding a small business aid program. He was convicted and is currently serving his sentence.

Amy Jo Johnson – Pink Ranger

Ranger Rosa, on the other hand, scored a few performances after “Power Rangers”, and stayed in the middle. Currently, Johnson is trying to start a career in filmmaking. After starting to direct some short films, he directed his first feature film “Tammy’s Always Dying” (2019), and also worked as a director in some TV series, such as “Superman and Lois”.

Thuy Trang – Yellow Ranger

The most tragic case of the cast is that of Thuy Trang. Like Austin, the Yellow Ranger demanded a raise from the series’ producers and ended up getting fired. He continued in the acting world, starring in a few films.

But in 2001, the actress was involved in a serious car accident in San Francisco, USA, and ended up dead before even reaching the hospital.

David Yost – Blue Ranger

Of all the original cast actors, David Yost was the only one left for the entire 155-episode run of the series. At the end of filming of ‘Power Rangers’, the actor had no major TV appearances.

In 2010, he revealed that he was gay and stressed that he suffered from homophobia on the set of the series.

Walter Jones: Black Ranger

Walter Jones already had an acting career before joining the first version of ‘Power Rangers’. Like Austin St. John and Thuy Trang, he was fired after asking for a raise.

While he is best known for being the first Black Ranger, Jones has starred in such productions as “Malibu Shores,” “Space Cases,” “Sabrina, the Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” and “Warrior,” as well as voice acting for “Tá Raining Hamburger 2”.

Jason David Frank – Green Ranger

Finally, Jason David Frank was one of the most important figures and one of the most remembered faces of the franchise. In addition to playing the Green Ranger, he wore the red, white and black ranger uniform. Before dying of still unknown causes, the actor became a martial arts teacher and fighter.

You can watch the original series of “Power Rangers” on Netflix.
