“JN” teaches the manipulators a lesson by pointing out PL’s action in favor of Bolsonaro

Telejornal uses an asset to not deliver what coup sympathizers wanted most

There is a ‘dry note’ in television news. The presenter reads the news without the support of images or illustrations.

The resource is used for less important information or information that appears at the last moment, due to lack of material or to avoid giving greater visibility to the subject and interested parties.

The ‘Jornal Nacional’ used this trick by reporting on the PL’s action against the TSE demanding the cancellation of thousands of electronic voting machines for the benefit of the defeated candidacy of Jair Bolsonaro.

While the hosts William Bonner and Renata Vasconcellos read the TP (teleprompter) nothing was shown from the press conference held by the president of the party, Valdemar Costa Neto.

No photos or archive images were also shown of Bolsonaro, in self-isolation at the Alvorada Palace since losing the election to Lula on October 30.

A few seconds on ‘JN’ generates valuable repercussions. All politicians want to appear on the most watched TV news in the country, reaching up to 45 million Brazilians every night.

By ‘snubbing’ Valdemar and, consequently, Bolsonaro, Globo refuses to be manipulated to feed the mass of maneuvers for a ‘reversal’ in the result of the presidential elections.

Fourth power, the press must watch over the truth. It cannot promote authoritarian personalities and anti-democratic intentions. It must defend itself against attempts at ideological domination.

By restricting the PL’s tactics to a ‘dry note’, the ‘JN’ gives electoral contestation the dimension it deserves. Minimum. Just a record. And, therefore, it respects the intelligence and time of the public who get information on TV.
