The third and last city visited was Benin, where the historic meeting took place. “I’ve always scored goals on Santos tours. The boys were worried about Pele, two above him. I lay down,” Edu said on his way to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, stage for Santos’ victory over Nigeria’s Midwest selection, for 2 to 1 – goals from the former left winger and Toninho Guerreiro.
The confrontation was marked by Nigerians interrupting a war to fill stadiums and closely follow the “King of Football’s team”.
On the stadium lawn, Eternal Idols described the feeling of returning to the African country. This time, at peace.
“He had just been hired, he came from the Olympic Selection. Everything was beautiful, there were bleachers on one side. I took some pictures with him [apontando para Edu], with Rildo, Negreiros. It’s really very gratifying for us to come back here and see this reality. It has become a very beautiful stadium” Manoel Maria said.
“Returned in peace. Thank God, we made it reign until today. After a year of our game, the war is over and peace reigns until today. This is wonderful, knowing that we too are part of this story. And yet, because I have 100% African origins. I’m at home, next to my brothers. A great happiness, “described Edu.
At the end of the video, a friendly match was held at the stadium, marking the 53rd anniversary of that match. For this reason, two teams were formed, one that wore the third kit of Santos, with players from Bendel Insurence – a team from the Nigerian city -, and another that wore the traditional white, with local players.
