‘Love Actually’ hit the big screens in December 2003 and has since become one of the favorite films to watch over and over again at Christmas.
Of course, over the years, the audience had the opportunity to realize its negative details and even learn one or another secret of the actors when filming it.
For example, Emma Thompson revealed in November 2018 that the scene of her character crying over her husband’s infidelity was influenced by the deception that her then-husband Kenneth Branagh actually lived with actress Helena Bonham Carter.
Now, another of the British production’s actors has revealed how much he “hated” doing a certain scene.
- Emma Thompson also starred in “Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang,” a movie available on ViX+, ViX’s premium streaming service.
Hugh Grant ‘hated’ the dance scene in ‘Love Actually’
In the film, the actor played David, who unexpectedly finds love in his new job as prime minister.
Although his happy ending with Natalie brought more than one smile, no one can deny that his most memorable moment was when he danced alone and carefree at 10 Downing Street.
However, Hugh Grant does not remember this shot fondly. This was revealed in late November 2022, in the special ‘The Laughter & Secrets of Love Actually: 20 Years Later’.
As he commented to reporter Diane Sawyer, his disgust with the scene began before the cameras rolled:
In this regard, the director of the film, Richard Curtis, said that Hugh Grant was so reluctant to do this scene that he tried to postpone it as long as possible.
As we know, this did not happen and the director had to resort to legal terms to convince the actor: he reminded him that it was his “contractual responsibility” and Grant had no choice but to play her.
Of course, he didn’t do it with a smile on his face either, because “he was grumpy” on set.
While Hugh Grant didn’t hide his disdain for his ‘Love Actually’ dance scene, he found a way to make it even funnier:
The actor added that:
Did you find Hugh Grant’s scene in ‘Love Actually’ amusing or ‘excruciating’?
