The fire during a sex scene and other anecdotes from the filming of ‘Elite’

The cast of the sixth season reveals to FOTOGRAMAS the best moments of the recording.

‘Elite’ has come in a very intense way, how could it be otherwise. Without a doubt, the series causes a revolution on Netflix with each premiere. It is one of the best Spanish series on the platform, and in the week of its premiere it has been among the most watched.

What is the recipe for success of ‘Elite’? We have talked about this with Carlos Montero and Jaime Vaca, writers of the series. “We don’t know, if we knew we could always be making ‘Elites’,” they acknowledge.

“We always approach it from the most absolute honesty, having a great time, always creating uncomfortable questions, getting the characters into problems that we don’t know how to get them out of, and that this mess is due to something from the situation itself or a moral issue , which also interests us in moral eggplants”, affirms Montero.

“And from untold points of view. The sown land has already been sown by others, so we move along those paths,” adds Vaca. None consider themselves pioneers, but they do try to be as innovative as possible. “Yes, we are attentive to what has been told and how it has been told, and we try not to repeat the speech, even if it is finally repeated.” “Y playing between the playful part and the uncomfortable part can be part of the success. It is a series that is very polarized,” says Montero.

        opening borders

Few fictions, or perhaps none, have talked about homosexuality in first division football. In this season they do. Perhaps it could be -hopefully- a way for them to open up in the real world, as they wish. “We are aware that the noise we generate is not that great either,” says Carlos.

Diversity is in our DNA. That there are people who know that their stories are as important as those of others”says Jamie. “but inside that unreal world“, comments Carlos between laughs. “Although it is true that ‘Elite’ is not a series that is recognized for getting in the way.”

“We don’t work on the ‘up to here’ thing much, perhaps we reject it when it sounds like something that has already been told.” It even makes us a little bit to think “Whoops, whoops… let’s see how far this takes us. Are we going to dare?”, they both admit.

        Guilty pleasure

And within that opening of songs that ‘Elite’ contains, many have cataloged it as guilty pleasureand. “Dario (Madrona) -the other creator of the series along with Madrona- always says that he does not like that expression of guilty pleasure at all. I think that in guilt there is pleasure too. And many watching ‘Elite’ will feel that way, and I see it well. As long as they see it and enjoy it, it seems good to me regardless of the moral vantage point that each one wants to place“.

“The fact that we are portraying an elite gives us a lot of freedom because you can imagine those people who have been born with so many privileges, have matured or aged very quickly and have gone through many soon before they should. It is not the same as a teenager from a marginal neighborhood than one who has already traveled the world. That gives us almost the freedom to treat them as adults,” says Montero, to which Vaca adds “and this is the theme that we love that they are super-powerful characters who have all the money in the world but cannot afford not to suffer disappointments, love, etc.”

The sixth season of ‘Elite’ has been available on Netflix since November 18. In the video that we present to you above this article, the protagonists of this sixth season talk about details and anecdotes from the episodes of the series.
