Marvel reveals its multiverse’s most powerful new villain

Marvel has updated, revamped, and created new properties and adventures for its Multiverse, for future storylines in magazines, TV, and movies.

For some time now, Marvel Comics has been reshaping its Multiverse, its primal forces and powerful cosmic entities. This mapping was anticipated in the comics, before Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU, its acronym in English), and now begins to bring some important revelations, both for the future of magazines and for film and television productions. And one of them faces the next big threat from the House of Ideas.

Before we talk about this great villain itself, it’s worth pointing out the work that screenwriter Al Ewing has been doing since 2015. Seven years ago, Marvel Comics already knew it needed to create more padding for its Multiverse, as well as better map the its cosmic corner and the founding story of its primordial forces.

At that time, Ewing began this work on the title The last, in which a cosmic team has begun to unravel previous versions of the Multiverse, as well as the states of various entities. Galactus was very present in this phase, as a leitmotif for the storylines that updated the Marvel Universe.

This “mapping” was briefly paused before the start of Phase 4 at Marvel, possibly to have a synch between releases involving the House of Ideas Multiverse, and was picked up by Ewing last year, under the title defenders🇧🇷

It is worth mentioning that the Marvel Multiverse is very different from the time of the Latest from Ewing 2015. Thor, Hulk, Doctor Strange and the Silver Surfer, for example, have become much more powerful in recent years. Venom’s race became one of Marvel’s primal forces, and beings like Knull, the Celestials, and the Beyonders rose in prominence, while Galactus, Thanos, and Eternity, first among entities of immeasurable rank, became, shall we say, “more fragile” in the face of to the new staircase power of the Casa das Ideas.

And then we come to the big reveal of the new threat.

Who is the Marvel Multiverse’s new big bad?

Last year, in the title defenders, Ewing scouted a time-traveling team searching for a mad scientist named Carlos Zota, or the Masked Marauder. The plot once again used Galactus as a leitmotif and reunited the heroes Doctor Strange and the Silver Surfer with unknown cosmic creatures, such as Red Harpy, Cloud, among others.

The limited series showed, for example, some details about previous versions of the Marvel Multiverse, as well as the past of Galactus and the entity Eternity, which is the physical manifestation of the Marvel Universe itself. And this year, Defenders: overcontinued with the “mapping” started by Ewing way back in 2015, with the addition of characters like Loki and Blue Marvel.

Defender Alert: Beyond Spoilers #1 5!

Well, after traversing all previous versions of the Marvel Multiverse, the Defenders arrive at the last possible stop: a metalinguistic place called “House of Ideas”, where the “God” of Marvel, known as the One Above All (or One Above all), which has all the answers on the publisher.

Defenders meet the

During their conversation with the all-powerful being, the group discovers that the “ultimate enemy” of the Marvel Multiverse is a villain known as The Enigma, a mysterious force that stands above all creation and is reaching the end of reality. During a mock battle, the One above all shows a glimpse of something their minds cannot fully comprehend.

The hero Blue Marvel, who is one of the most intelligent beings in the Marvel Multiverse, goes so far as to say that it is “something vast, that enters our reality, that is a crown above all other things.” Javier Rodriguez’s drawing shows what this mighty entity would look like, a colossal crown hovering over different worlds in different realities.

It’s worth noting that this revelation goes against several clues shown throughout Defenders: over and even in Thor’s book, when Enigma appears after Loki survives the destruction of the Seventh Cosmos, before landing in the Sixth Cosmos, which are past versions of the Marvel Multiverse.

As you see, the subject matter is a bit complicated and requires reading (and re-reading) with great attention to detail, which will surely have seeds planted in other storylines and spawn several more stories in the future. It is Marvel who updates, renews and creates new properties and possibilities for the next adventures, not only in comics but in theaters and on TV.

And when will we see this Enigma? Well, only time will tell…
